Born to a Ghanaian father and Iranian mother (very unique mix don’t you think), Freema Agyeman is one of the biggest stars in UK cinema. I stumbled across her work by accident while doing a bit of research for my blog and I must say I have been very impressed by what I have seen so far.
Ghanaians resident in the United Kingdom and those fortunate enough to have 24/7 access to cable television will not doubt be aware of this screen gem. Her most notable role is playing Martha Jones in the critically acclaimed BBC science fiction series Doctor Who.
Her performance as Martha Jones in the Doctor Who series endeared her to the hearts of many, earning her loads of rave reviews. She also appeared as Adeola Oshodi in the movie Rise of the Cybermen as well as smaller roles in various television series and dramas.
Her greatness is evident in the number of awards and nominations she has received in the course of her work. In 2007, Frema Agyeman won the accolade of “Female TV Star” in the Screen Nation Film and TV Awards.
The versatility of Freema Agyeman is apparent in the fact that she not only acts, but also lends her voice to narrating various audio books and projects. She currently plays a leading role in the Law & Order Franchise; Law & Order: UK as Alesha Philips.
All she needs now is to star in a big budget Hollywood blockbuster to expand her fan base and place her firmly on the road to international stardom. She currently lives with her boyfriend in London.
