With all the economic crisis the west has gotten on their shoulders, it is very pathetic to hear that some Ghanaians are still selling their properties, leaving their jobs and even abandoning studies to pursue visas to USA and Europe.

I do not know how well to tell some people in Ghana that, the west has nothing to offer in terms of employment, welfare, social life and health care. Indigenous citizens have no jobs, cannot afford decent accommodation or pay for healthcare, yet our people back home cannot quench their noxious thirst to come to the west in search for non existing greener pastures.

I know several Ghanaians with countless degrees (including P.hd) crying day in and out here as they cannot find desirable or any job. I am finishing my studies in December and I am not far from these people as in ‘not knowing’ what is next for me out here. The economy is MESSED.

How come some Ghanaians with decent jobs and good social life are abandoning all these just to go to America or Europe and die out of stress, frustration and disappointment?

The American Embassy in Accra was on Friday September 30, besieged by angry Visa Lottery applicants, who are blaming the authorities at the embassy for neglecting their pursuit of Visas to the United States.

Scores of people from different parts of the country complained bitterly to Citi News that they have been abandoned for weeks by the American authorities, after securing the necessary requirements and five passes needed for their Visas.

Others also recounted the inconvenience they have faced over the last couple of weeks saying they do not have places to sleep at night and sometimes have to pass the night at the Tema Station.

Some of the applicants at the Embassy who expressed their resentment about the way they are being treated said authorities at the American Embassy must respect their rights as Ghanaians.

“We have been here for some weeks now and people have been here for months, some came in as far as February, at least if you will not give us the Visa tell us so that whatever we have to do we will go and do it”. An applicant told Citi News.

“I have lost my job, people have stopped schooling and we have stayed here for a very long time, I don’t have anywhere to sleep so I just sleep at the Tema station” another applicant said.

  1. How sad that we Africans don’t value our continent till this very day? Everywhere is hard these days. The western is SUPPER MESSED UP. Immigration issues can be very fraustrating, stressful, disapointing, traumatising and even deadly. Pease no matter how hard Africa seems to be, for me its still far better than the western world. please be wise and stop giving up your properties, jobs and lives in the name of traveling abroad. Please think twise and remain wise! I rest my case.

  2. When will Ghanaians learn? It is sad that people are going through all these just for a common US visa. Things are excessively hard out in USA and all the west is in financial crisis. Don’t these people watch CNN or even read the news? Oh

  3. Hmmm i believe they are not the ordinary visa applicants i.e vistor visa’s,student visa’s etc but the Greencard (Diversity Visa Program )lottery winners may be….It appears to me from reading the article that these folks may have won  green cards (Permanent residency)  in the DV lottery which are being processed and they are complaining about long processing times….. That is why they are screaming about rights!! I still don’t get why they are staying at the embassy though, since it MAY take up to a year to process the green cards?? Something is off in the story

  4. Authoritarian! Anti-freedom of speech and expression-that’s who you are Chris. Otherwise, you wouldn’t have brazenly and unilaterally deleted my comment on this post, which humbly sought to find out why you demand that people link back when they pick articles from this site, but you fail to do same when you pick articles from other sites. Why are you creating a bad impression about yourself. I demand an unconditional apology. You ought read about how to moderate a blog. Finally, you should note that there is a clear distinction between linking back and sourcing. Thank you.

  5. People who have graduated from colleges cant find jobs, most Americans have lost their jobs, homes, healthcare, and now they aren’t keen on allowing more nationalities into their country, they complain of immigrants taking their jobs, these days they are not approving the lottery visas like they used to if u won the lottery its not a guarantee they will approve ur visa.
