Controversial movie maker, Socrate Safo and former President Jerry John Rawlings are incomparable. However, the two can be said to have something in common as their utterances and activities one way or the other get the tabloids busy.
The former is to the entertainment industry what the latter is to politics. Whatever comments the former President makes becomes news. The same way movies produced by Socrate Safo gets everyone talking.
The CEO of Movie Africa Productions, Socrate over the years has earned himself as the most contentious movie maker not only in Ghana but Africa as a whole.
Socrate was on Tuesday arrested and detained for several hours at the Community 18 Police Station for a missing ‘sperm’ on his set.
On location shooting his latest movie titled ‘Sons Of Satan’, which is a sequel of his earlier movie ‘Sakawa Boys’ released in 2009, the police appeared on set with one of the actors in the movie-Duke Felix, they disrupted the set and arrested him.
As a pioneer in the movie making business in Ghana, Socrate has produced one of the finest movies ‘Ghost Tears’, ‘Lovers Blues’, ‘Akwaaba’, ‘Amsterdam Diary’, ‘Sika Nti’ but his recent movies like ‘Hot Fork’, ‘Love and Sex’, ‘So So and So’, ‘Sakawa Boys’, ‘Adult Only’, ‘Jezebel’ ‘What Sex Can Do’ among others have been met with frowned faces because of his constant exploitation of sex scenes.
With a name like controversial hanging on his neck, his movies have become a subject of discussion.
What led to Socrate’s arrest? Duke Felix told GhanaCelebrities.Com that, in a scene where he was supposed to use sperm, he made it known that he wants to use real sperm instead of what has been mixed on set as sperm.
GhanaCelebrities.Com can confirm that, the mixture to be used as sperm became a subject for discussion on set as most people doubted if indeed the mixture looked like sperm.
Duke Felix then opted to produce his own sperm to be used to curtail the disagreement. Soon he had gone to produce the sperm. Shortly after when it was set for them to shoot that scene, the sperm was nowhere to be found.
He became very worried and suspicious. Not wanting to continue shooting if the where about of the sperm is not known, he went straight to the Community 18 Police Station to report the incidence after searching the place thoroughly.
When the Police officer appeared on set, she tried seizing the camera to prevent the continue shoot of the movie until the missing sperm was found but she was resisted. After minutes of scuffle, Socrate was arrested as the head of production and sent to the Police Station.
With the director not on set, shooting came to an abrupt end. At the Police Station, after several persuasions, Socrate was allowed to grant the permission to talk with GhanaCelebrities.Com.
In a chit chat, he said. “It’s just unfortunate that it has happened this way because if I’m the producer/director and anything happens on the set, I presume or I have to take responsibility and that’s what I think I have done. It’s not because I have committed any crime but looking at the whole scenario, it’s strange and childish to me, that an actor of his calibre can do something like this, where a common sperm that you say because you can’t find the sperm so you are bringing in the police.”
When asked why he referred to the sperm as common. He said “I will say common sperm because it’s not in you, if it’s in you, then you will say that it’s of value but biologically we know when sperm comes out within a certain period and it’s not preserved, all the spermatozoa dies off. So considering the number of hours that this thing has taken, it’s not of any use. I don’t think any woman would want to use it for anything or anybody can use it for anything.”
He was however hopeful and confident that, whoever took the sperm will not use it for any ritual purposes , “I pray that at the end of the day, whoever has taken it, I don’t believe he’s going to use it for anything. May also return it so we can have our peace of mind on set.” Socrate said rather worriedly.
Though it’s very common in Ghana for actors to go on set with their own props, it’s very unprofessional on a part any movie maker. Socrate denied ever asking the actor to produce his own sperm for the scene, “I didn’t ask him to do it”.
Continuing that: “We even have somebody on set who has mixed something to represent the sperm but he [Duke Felix] said that he want the thing to look real. So he decided to use his own sperm, I didn’t tell him to do it. He told us he has his own sperm to use and we laugh it off. So if at this hour, you are telling me this is what has happened to your sperm, I don’t think I have to be responsible for it.”
As at the time GhanaCelebrities.Com left the Police Station, Socrate was still being detained. He looked very worried and confused: “I’m looking at what the police will do. If they feel like taking me to court or I’m looking for somebody to bail me out. Let’s take it from there.”
He continued that, for now, he doesn’t know if he’s going to continue with the production or whether to stop working with the said actor for his negligence on set. “For now, I don’t know, after my bail then I will know whether I will continue the production or even continue to work with him.”

My sentiments exactly! This is pure PR Gimmick for another useless movie. Unfortunately, GC has allowed itself to be used for that purpose. Its a shame. How could you get pictures of Socrates ‘Porn’ Safo on the set when you indicated in the story that he was still at the police station. That leaves me with the ff question:
1. was GC on the set when the police arrived or GC went there later
2. If GC was on the set before the incident then they knew the full story before the initial one paragraph publication a few days ago.
3. if GC was not there, how did they come by the pictures of safo still on the set.
Over to you Chris & co. Fill us in. As it stands now, the whole thing smacks of a badly executed PR Gimmick. Readers are discerning and Safo cannot fool us!
@Efo mawugbe, perhaps you didn’t read the entire article. Yes GC was on set for the earlier story about ALEX BINEY. Mind you, shooting a movie is not a day thing. I don’t think it’s important to explain myself to you but let me do that now. I DONT know or CARE if its Socrates’ PR gimmick like you said, if indeed it is then Socrate really planned it well. You think GC will go on Socrate set and report the OPPOSITE? Come on, we were on set on the second day before the police came to arrest him. We went to the police station with him. Moreover they were recording when the police woman came. As I said if it’s really a gimmick then Socrate pulled it off well. Go back to the earlier write up and pictures and read it again.
