In every group, there is the one who stands out as the leader or who really gets the group going. After the breakup of any group, it becomes clear who was keeping the group going.
I wouldn’t want to delve deeply into that aspect now but it’s clear that after the breakup of Buk Bak, arguably one of the best hip life groups before or after VIP, Akyeame, Nkasei, 4X4 depending on where you are standing, its glaring that none of them has benefited from the breakup.
However, they are missed greatly by Ghanaians due to the fact that recent rappers have not lived to our expectations. The hip life genre has changed with its dwindling effects. The game has seen an upsurge of ‘uselessness’ with just anything thrown out to the public in the name of music.
These days people are in a hurry to churn out ‘rubbish’ they call music. Now more reasons why I will not hesitate to join the chorus that hip life is dead is the fact that over half of the hip life musicians in Ghana now are bereft of lyrics. A great number of them are talentless.
Thanks to Gyedu Blay Ambolley and Reggie Rockstone for starting rap and hip life respectively in Ghana. If not, most of these ‘confused’ sets of hip life artistes would be pushing trucks around town.
Though some of these ‘confused’ hip lifers should be putting measures in place to protect the genre started many years ago by Reggie Rockstone, they are rather getting themselves more confused and trying hard to create another genre to rebel what we all know as ‘Hip Life’. How confused can the confused and talentless become?
Oopss! Sorry for the little detour. The good news in town is that, hip life trio Buk Bak after many years of breakup have decided to stage a comeback as a group to churn out what Ghanaians have known them for; hits after hits.
Buk Bak before their break up were the only hip life group [stand to be corrected] that churned out more than three hits in their albums. Musicians today are lazy and egoistic. Just a single hit track on their album and it’s enough for them.
GhanaCelebrities.Com has learnt that, the trio are back in Ghana now and plans are far advanced for them to work together again.
Buk Bak started as a three member group made up of Prince Bright [Bling Bling Sparkles]; a versatile rapper, who raps in Ga, Twi and pidgin whiles Shoetan was known for English raps and Ronnie the ragga voiced dude adds his voice to make songs complete . Their songs became instant hits because of their catchy choruses.
After the first album, Shoetan quit the group to continue his studies abroad. Bright, Ronnie went ahead to record albums ‘Awensem’, ‘Sika Kokoo’ and ‘Gold Coast’. After which, they went their separate ways to work on their solo albums.
Bright released his solo with album and hit track ‘Condom’ whiles Ronnie released his ‘Screen Saver’.
Both tracks failed to make the needed impact like a Buk Bak song had done over the years. Their U-turn has been described by some connoisseurs of the music fraternity as sweet welcoming news.
The trio had hit songs such as ‘Gonja Barracks’, ‘Komi Ke Kena’, ‘Klu Blofo’, ‘Chingilingi’, ‘Kelewele’, ‘Trotro’, ‘Dienpo’, ‘Akwasi Broni’, ‘Tankase’, ‘U 4 Know’, ‘Kakatsofa’, ‘Kakalika’, ‘Twen Me’, ‘Akwele Ke Akuokor’, ‘Yenko Ne Brebre’, ‘Ma Me Odo’, ‘Kululu’, ‘Bibini Ba’, ‘Helepu’ among others.
