City People Entertainment Awards is here again and as usual Ghana will be making a strong representation with 12 categories.

The categories to be keenly contested by the Ghanaians includes; ‘Best Actor Of The Year’, ‘Best Supporting Actor Of The Year’, ‘Actress Best Of The Year’, ‘Best Supporting Actress Of The Year’, ‘Music Group Of The Year’ and ‘Face Of Ghana Movies’.

The rest are ‘Movie Producer of the Year’, ‘Male Musician of the Year’, ‘Female Musician of the Year’, ‘Entertainment Company of the Year’, ‘Ghana TV Station of the Year’ and ‘Ghana Radio Station with Best Showbiz Content’.

The City People Entertainment Awards is an award scheme based in Nigeria and has been running for over 14 years.

The awards over the years have become one of the most respected and most glamorous award shows in Nigeria. Its purpose over the years has been to reward Individuals and Corporate bodies who have excelled in their various fields of endeavour.

The voting is for only Nigeria residents and therefore the nominated Ghanaians will have to depend on their fan base in Nigeria.

In a chit chat with actress Nikki Samonas, one of the Ghanaian nominees in the ‘Best Supporting Actress of the Year’ category, she revealed to GhanaCelebrities.Com her chances of winning.

“I believe that I have done well in the year. I also believe that my movies are good. I also have fans who are loyal to me but unfortunately the voting only takes place in Nigeria because the awards is meant for Nigerians. Unfortunately Ghanaians can’t vote regardless I look forward in accepting the outcome; be it winning or not winning”

The light-skinned model-cum-actress is nominated alongside her fellow compatriots Martha Ankomah, Khareema Aguiar, Beverly Afaglo and relatively unknown Vivian Amegashie for the awards slated for tomorrow-Sunday August 7, 2011 at Lekki, Nigeria.

“At least, I’m impressed for the fact that it’s a Nigerian awards and they have been able to integrate it with Ghanaians. In as much as there was a fire outbreak in the previous award, they were able to give the awards to the deserved personalities. So that’s plus for them for their courage and their perseverance.” She talks about her impression about the awards.

On other issues, Ghanaian movies are gradually changing as light skinned or mixed race artists have invaded the scene. Most of them have become a star overnight as result of their colour. Some people believe that, fair skinned individuals have undue advantage when it comes to the Entertainment industry in Ghana.

What’s Nikki’s take on that?  She said “To every race in the world, there are advantages and disadvantages. Through no faults of ours that we are also advantage in certain areas of our lives and disadvantage at other areas.

So for me, in as much as Ghanaians may talk about you, it’s unfortunate for them and fortunately for us or for me. In a sense that, in this situation, it’s no fault of ours.”

She continued: “When I [we] travel outside, I [we] am not regarded as a mixed race – that’s a disadvantage for me but in Africa or Ghana, I’m regarded as a mixed race – that’s an advantage for me. So it’s cool to understand those who are complaining.”

Some of the movies Nikki has been featured in includes ‘Sinking Sands’, ‘Labour Of Love’, ‘Deadly Obsession’, ‘Divert Call’, ‘Wrong Line’, Love & Bullets’ and others.
