In the coming weeks, Ghanaians will be introduced to a new TV series ‘The Miser’ from the stables of Smarttys Management and Productions, the same company that produced the movie ‘C.E.O.’, which featured the likes of Nollywood actor Desmond Elliot as well as Nadia Buari, Ekow Blankson and Roselyn Ngissah.
The lead role in the ‘The Miser’, Efo Kojo [Kofi Adjorlolo] plays a wealthy farmer who hides the fact that he is rich from his family and friends and tries to live an economical life. Aside being strict, he tries to dominate his family with stingy ideologies.
The story line also dwells much on agriculture and addresses wastage in the Ghanaian society. The series features some of the veteran actors in Ghana.
Speaking to GhanaCelebrities.Com after the press preview on how she managed to get the veterans back on set, Selassie Ibrahim, the CEO of Smarttys Management and Productions said “I’m of the old breed, so it was easy getting them.”
Her company produced the ‘C.E.O.’ movie last year, which according to her was a box-office success. In explaining further why her company had moved from producing movies to series. She said, they [company] want to have something that will constantly be aired on TV.
“We thought we should come out with something that will constantly be on TV. The movies you produce it, sell and people buy and watch in their homes but the series is on TV – its running on various channels, so you can see your work and appreciate it and then you know you are imparting on people.” She defended her outfit.
Most producers after failing to achieve their targets turn to move to other departments.
Selassie Ibrahim expressed shock when GhanaCelebrities.Com asked her if her previous movie didn’t sell hence her decision to move to producing series. She denied that assertion, continuing that “Go and find out from the marketer [Washington DC]. I regretted giving it to him to market. He made so much money – oh my goodness, go and find out from him”
Also, she refused to give out figures and challenged GhanaCelebrities.Com to contact the marketer of the movie to ascertain the truth.
Currently, two local television stations; GTV and TV3 as well as Dstv will be telecasting it when it finally hits the screens.
It was produced by Selassie Ibrahim and directed by John Izedonmi. It features stars like; Kofi Adjorlolo, Selassie Ibrahim, Nana Ama McBrown, Nadia Buari, John Dumelo, Roselyn Ngissah, Grace Nortey, James Gardner, Henry Agba, Beverly Afaglo among others.
