It would be absolutely absurd to re-echo how great ‘Adams Apples’ is since this has been done several times on here, precisely when the chapters were premiered in Ghana. You can click here for that.
However, I sincerely cannot depart an inch from what was said in the linked post. I perfectly understand why it is a ten chapter movie, it could perfectly pass for fifty chapter movie; the twist and suspense are enough to make you want the movie not to end.
Shirley Frimpong Manso perfectly understands what her audience want and she is exceptionally great at delivering that without any dilution. The movie is on point and the reaction from the cinema hall yesterday firmly affirms that.
The best part of all is that, the large crowd that were seated at the Odeon Cinema could relate and were headedly fixed into the movie despite the fact that the weather was terrible.
Who was in charge of the organisation for the London premiere of Adams Apples? I would be exceedingly disappointed if the person or whatsoever company that handled the premiere still has a job today.
Ghanaians have to understand the value of time and customer service. I will outline the various serious organizational disasters of the London premiere of ‘Adams Apples’ under the below headings…
- Who in God’s name hired these people to handle the premiere?
- How on earth could there be shortage of tickets?
- What time did they say the premiere was supposed to start?
- Do these people know the proportion of Londoners who are wholly dependent on public transport?
- Do they know what time trains and buses close services in London?
- What was the name of the movie that was premiere yesterday? There was not a single poster/banner out there.
The whole organization was an unpleasant JOKE. A big disappointment and disproportionate value for any money that was charged.
Can you believe there was not a single BANNER or even POSTER of ‘Adams Apples’ at the premiere yesterday? I heard 3 Ugandan guys asking a lady standing behind me a very simple question; what is the name of the Ghanaian movie that was being premiered?
How much does it cost to get a POSTER or even a white ‘BED SHEET’ and use a black paint to write ‘Adams Apples’ and stick it by somewhere on the wall even if the organizers could not afford a glossy banner?
Do I even have to talk about the absolute disregard for time? As usual, an event that was supposed to commence at 9:00/9:30pm per advertisement came to life around 10:30 when the movie stars showed up for the red carpet.
Which reasonable individual will care anymore after having been made to wait on his/her legs for almost 1 and half hour just for the red carpet? Gosh!
As if the 1 and half hour wait was not enough, the organizers continued their gruesome disrespect for time and ill-consideration of the fact that a majority of the various people who have gathered for the premiere had come on public transport which ends services around 1pm.
The first light from the projector was thrown around 11:40 when people were dozing off and were getting uncomfortable with constant check at their wrist watches with ‘How Do We Get Home’ in mind.
Let me go back to certain events that could have easily been avoided with the issue of the tickets and yet the organizers stupidly, preferably cheaply ignored it.
You print out amazing glossy tickets without a full address of the venue on it. Wow, who did this job? Worse of it all is that, the tickets did not even have a phone number to call should an emergency arise.
So this is how they thought, give us your £10 pounds and we will send you this shiny ticket, if you are not able to make your way to the venue, screw you because after all, we are just interested in your money and nothing else.
Yes, you have gotten my money this time, but what about next time? This is a clear display of a myopic mentality; all the organizers seemed to care about is today and not build a good relationship with Londoners for future premires.
Would it amount to contempt if I call the organizers ‘losers’ who had no idea about what they were entrusted to do? How on earth would tickets be finished at the premiere venue when the only ‘trustable’ and viable form to purchase your ticket was to come there and do it.
Where did they sell the tickets? What happened to using tickets outlets like ticketmaster.com and others to sell tickets? I remember there was a ticket hotline but was a pretty useless as if it did not exist.
In the midst of all the havoc, there was no one to ‘correctly’ speak to, except a young lady placed in the dark at some unnoticeable corner who did not even know what was going on herself. All she could say was, ‘tickets are finished, wait for 10 mins and this 10mins turned out to be 3 hours.
Should I continue recalling all the unnecessary discomfort that was caused yesterday just because some ‘ignorant company or person’ was probably in charge of the premiere of such a good movie?
For a minute, I thought I was there to see ‘Mirror Boy’ because their posters and banners did justice to marketing and promotion…
The chapter 2 of the movie ended at around 3am and you would not believe the look on my face when I heard some girl saying to her mates, we have to hang around till 6am when the buses start so we can go home. I will not come here next time, she added.
Yes, they will not come next time. I do not want to even think about the many people who could not find their way there and could not even have a number handy to call to ask for a simple ‘full venue address’ and therefore will not also bother next time.
Great movie but the packaging, organization and presentation was as cheap as the last Community Centre event I attended in 2001 in my village.
Please do not get it twisted, this is not about Shirley Frimpong Manso’s ‘Adams Apples’, the movie was exceptionally great. The movie is one of the best to have come out of Ghana, it adds colour and glamour fused with an exceptionally intriguing story line to the Africa movie industry.
Those who were put in charge of the organization in my candid opinion screwed it up. Let’s call a spade a spade and not a fork. Shirley and her Sparrow Production team must re-evalute whoever was in charge of the organization of the London premiere.

I told my pal it would finish no later that midnight…no such luck! I was apologizing to her constantly for the time wasting. Anyway Yvonne looks HOT! John is same ole same ole bad boy look and Shirley really looked gorgeous in the dress! Ppl were not messing with the style and glamour. Jeans would not have been acceptable at this event.
Anyway, I can’t wait for part 3! Pls Shirley don’t forget us here for part 3!

Before I start i have to say that movie is worth watching it I rate it 5 star full of laughter, story line is good i have watch somany adrican movies but shirley well done to you i am really impress about it and can’t wait to get one in my collection thumps up

My friends and taking the escalator upstairs I got told that my friends had to wait because they where told that people caring the wrist band tickets had to wait and I couldn’t leave them their and go in alone ofcourse I couldn’t keep my mouth shut so I went back to that lady wearing black dress with red high heels like she is attending a funeral and gave get my peace of my mind so she eventually arrange something for my friends even though might night was a but spoiled and nearly dissapionted my brothers Anne my special guest movie Adams apple but a big smile on my face

My sentiments EXACTLY!!!!!! ill planing by selfish promoters! If I were Shirley, I would never use them again. Fair enough you got an excellent crowd, but I am sure their views of the film will be tainted by the fact that they waited so long to see it….that’s if they were not even sleeping by the time it had finished.
Too many chiefs and not enough Indians in this case. There was 1 lady selling tickets at the end….taking orders from every tom dick and harry; ‘he said I should wait’, ‘this one said 10 minutes’ ‘kofi is now checking to see if there will be a 2nd screening’ ‘now I have to wait for Sela to confirm the go ahead’ ‘oh but kofi said another 10 minutes’! She also had us believing that the printed tickets had ran out and they would have to produce another batch that would only allow you to enter into Screen 2, away from the main auditorium (and John Dumelo)…meanwhile she had the tickets hidden but just couldn’t want to sell them!
It was very embarrassing being in that queue to say the least. However I am grateful to them for not starting the screening without us!
To be totally honest, if the same promoters host another one of her films….I will go without question! Purely because I am a huge fan of hers. But I will try my damnedest not to be a patron of the promoters other products. They don’t value customers kraaa….
n.b. Their closest confidants will not bear witness to this, as they always get in for free!

I was @ the premier yesternight & I must confess dis is Shirley’s best movie so far & one of the best movies from Africa.I was glad I saw the likes of John Dumelo, Yvonne Okoro,Anima Misa,Joselyn Dumas,Chris Attoh & his galfriend Manuela,Adjetey Annan(pusher) & the great lady herself Shirley physically. I guess I saw u Chris too but I wasn’t too sure if dat was u in a long sleeved shirt with a t-shirt underneath. & a camera in hand. I agree with u abt the very poor organisation.I found it so difficult even locating the venue cos the address wasn’t very clear.The ticket issue was just anoda typical Ghanaian backward attitude.Didn’t they know the capacity of the cinema or what?Like u said the banner of the mirror boy was boldly hanged at the gallery whereas not even a single Adams apple poster was seen anywhere. The movie itself started ard 10:30 or so & ended ard 2 am when most of the public transport weren’t available.I liked the nigerian mc though & I hope next time they find better organisers 4 such a program.Nonetheless the movie was grt & my respect 4 Shirley,Ken Attoh & rest of the sparrow crew has increased once again.Keep on flying the flag of Ghana high.I can’t wait 2 watch the chapter 3.

Chris, you have said it well. I was so shocked last night about the organization strategy. It was so bad. In UK here, we pay about 7 pounds to watch a movie in the cinema and we get good reception and do not sit on the floor.
Meanwhile we paid 10 pounds yesterday without receiving any respect and I had to sit on the floor with my friends to watch the entire movie. One of my friend was a Jamaican and I felt so sorry.

@Miyagi, i dont knw why when africans are premering their movies in london ,Odeoen Cinema is always a catastrophy .. good organzisation is always a problem and good timing as well with us africans ….last year i was at the same place for the premier of Busting out ..with the stars from nigeria and Majid … organization was a helll and we alll had to wait toooo lonng too for just one movie ..place was overcrowed …some hurt themselves on the escalator when finally people where allowed to go into the cinema halls …there was also a bad technic ..movie kept cutting abt three times, no sound ,hall was too full and imediately some were sent to another hall .. …also one supervisors also had the gutts to call people animasl cos the first group was rushing on the escalator …
but shirleys one was very terrible with people sitting on the floor ….
@mother, say that again there where even two Nigerian woman who came to see the movie as well and they didn’t even allow them in and promise them that their wil be a second screening but they waited and waited untill they had enough of it and started saying that these Ghanaians they can’t organise nothing at all always problems after problems the whole organisation treated some people just Luke animals 6piunds can even give you a seat imagine paying ten pounds the funny thing was there was this dude he told some of them to go all the way to the top and see a guy call Denis he will sort them out they on VIP section not knowing that the VIP section was sitting on the floor it was a joke and the once who had a seat on top where more in Facebook instead of watching the movie

I was there on friday, We did have to wait for a while. I overheard it was the last showing at the cinema that’s why the delay but I was aware of this as all the african films shown at this cinema starts very late. I must say I enjoyed the film so much even though it was late.
I would say that in future only one chapter should be shown at a time, it was too long

Why are people always hating when people are doing good. Sometimes things do go wrong but people do enjoy events that they put on and behind their back people bitch. I’m sure I’ve seen pictures of Shirley has been in London all week. I wanted to see this film badly as I’d heard great reviews from Ghana so I but my ticket last. Yes I always buy my tickets unlike must people that want free ones and then moan. Shirley great film I can’t wait to see the others

Thank you for this blog/ article. I would like to believe that, you have more sense than this. The premier of Adam’s apple was a success and it had a good atmosphere all round and most people that attended enjoyed the evening.
At the end of the day, every event has its troubles, e.g. weather, late running of actors due to flights being late, and the fact that, Adam’s apple is not a Hollywood blockbuster, but an African film that is being launched in London to give us Londoners something.
To sit here and write and make it seem like the organisers didn’t do a great job, is bad mind and unnecessary. We all know, you will not make money out of showing an African movie in the UK, selling tickets online with Ticket Master is silly because, it is an African film and logistically, it doesn’t make sense. If you are going to write a review, look at it from both sides of the coin and don’t be quick to shout and call people out. Shirley did a great job. Showing both chapter 1 & 2 was long, but it is a lesson learnt for them.
I too was there and to be honest, I enjoyed standing around, meeting new people, talking to people and enjoying the atmosphere. The actors were late as they arrived around 10.30pm with the last actress coming straight from the airport to the premier at around 11.15pm. Events such as this gives us a great opportunity to together and meet new people, enjoy our culture and enjoy our films. All in all, I think it was a success as a lot of people enjoyed.
Just bear in mind that, it is not a Hollywood blockbuster, a lot of uncle, aunties, mom’s and dad’s do not have computers or know how to use it to buy tickets from Ticketmaster, the viewing at the cinema was the last viewing, so it was going to be late and also remember, they came all the way from Ghana to give you the opportunity to met them and enjoy the movie.

Certainly it is not me thou!… I mentioned ticketmaster and others and yet you have narrowly decided to stick with ticket master just to make a poor work done by some organizers look better… Are you saying most people could not have gotten tickets from online becos they are old Ghanaians and as such do not have access or know how to get tickest online?
How many oldies did you see at the Premiere?All I saw were young educated Ghanaians… Also, if you are ruling ticket masters out, what about selling them at other Ghanaian known joints? You call organizers who failed to reasonably forecast things good? Do you know the number of people that had to sit on the floor/stairs to watch the movie?Do you know that, that is a clear violation of Health & Safety regarding Cinemas/public places?
You talked about socializing and all, that is perfect but what was the prime purpose of the event? To hold a red carpet premiere of a movie and not MEET ME THERE or PARTY IN THE PARK.
It would be great if you and your AKWAABA folks will accept that they badly organized the event and look to take on board the criticisms no matter how unmercifully I presented them to help their future activities, rather than struggling to find some non-existing and silly excuses like you have given above to justice such an appalling organization…

Again, I could argue with you and entertain your disrespectful way of responding .. but I won’t. People were not sitting on the floor. The people standing were the organisers and the bouncers did a good job of checking everyone before they went in.
I was amongst the last people that came in and choose to sit two rows from the front. They did a great job. They have things they could improve on. And I am sure they know themselves. But do not bad mouth people who go out of their way to give you the opportunity to enjoy.
If you could do better, you should have put your hand up and offered to put the event on. Respect these people. Do throw stones at them and insulting me is very mature of you.

If I am amongst the people that came in last and saw empty seats at the front and middles rows and even some at the back, why would people sitting on the floor?

@Abenaa Boatemaa, again your being stubborn it’s my problem yeah j purchase ticket for my brothers and they had to sit on the floor u saw it with my own eyes stop being a ass kisser and accept the facts that people sat on the floor at first they weren’t even allowed in there because they where so called told that people with the wrist band ticket had to wait by the way what has this got to do with sparrow production keep them out that stupid organisation where not part of it Like you stated in your above comment you where in the front seat so how re hell could you have seen what happens up there and who told you that you where one of the last people that went in their almost 14 people who had wrist ticket where send to second floor because they where told that their was going to be a second screening and they waited for nothing untill they decided to come with us upstairs again woman or whatever you are stop making comments you dint know nothing about okay Even obaa Akua wrote in her comment that she was sitting on the floor go through the comments once you done that I would advice to keep your lips so if people weren’t on the floor why did they refund their money back again you fell me sunda you know everything that went on even that dude with black Suit wearing the fake gucci belt admitted that it was wrong to let those people sit in the floor while they pay for it and even he was even part of the organisation

@abena boatemaa……pls wat Miyagi said in his comments r all true ok…..i was a victim too ok….i was told…i mean de group i went with…we were told to go n watch de movie after when they made us spent almost 20 mins waitin for the second screening…when we went there…we sat on the floor..people were sittin on the floor at the back and some were even standing………….
the organisers didnt do well at all……..some nigerians were among the people dat were told to wait for the second screening…….these women were rly disappointed n one of them said,she will neva attend ghanians programe like dis…….i was rly sorry for another ghanian woman who was pregnant n jux walking around …go up and down jux cos these so call organisers were jux telling them to go number 2,den later number 11,dey werent even sure of the number of the second screening..
anyways shirley..well done but next time pls dnt hire such organisers…cos dey didnt do deir job well…….many people went home n dey got their ticket money back…………

i completely agree with this article. Thankyou Chris for giving an honest evaluation of the evening.It had epitimised Black Man Time. The organisation was so so poor.Interviews with the stars were rushed it was a real shame. However myself and my mum enjoyed the film but my goodness the team that were hired to organise this event should be sacked!!!!!!
I had fun regardless of the organisation. Well done to all involved
ok. the movie was good. it had humour and morals. but seriously why? so if they say ghanians are bad with timing does it have to be this insulting. the actors arrived at 10:50 then went to the back for ten minutes before appearing on the red carpet. then even waste more time. by the time the movie finished people missed their last bus, trains. i got home at 5:00 in the mornin. wat is this. i for sure i am not going to anything like this ecspecially if its in the evening, by ghanians. movie was great but i was very disapionted with timin.
