French Kiss

He is dubbed “The Worlds Greatest DJ” and has single handily carved a successful career for himself in the DJ/Promotion industry for the past 13 years. His portfolio is second to none and this gentlemen’s diary is consumed from the beginning of the year right down to the end; with bookings for Nite Clubs, Shows, Christenings Weddings, Engagements and various charity events.

French Kiss also known as his alter ego Sir K is one of the most successful UK based Ghanaian DJs of today.

His infectious mixing talent attracts various requests for him to play on numerous Major functions internationally in cities such as Johannesburg, New York, Holland and most notably the greatest city in the universe Accra, Ghana.

French Kiss begun Djing in 96 at the tender age of 18 during this period house parties were the absolute red carpet event of that generation, the young DJ would carry speaker boxes and crates of records from house 2 house.

Then as his skills developed he progressed into the club scene, gaining more popularity in 1998, he took things to the next level by playing alongside notorious heavyweight DJs such as 90%, Rampage & PNP.

By 1999 he had stolen their crown and was one of the most sought after DJs turning records at colossal Ghanaian events such as Miss Ghana UK, Ghana’s Independence and Ghana’s Party in the Park in UK.

Later, he started his own popular events such as Made in Ghana, Mr Ghana, Chale v Oga and Explicit.

Today GhanaCelebrities.Com has met with the man behind the creative skills of French Kiss, Mr Nana Kojo Adjei for a chit-chat.

GhanaCelebrities.Com: What does it take as a DJ to have such great longevity?

There are various factors

  1. Constantly keeping yourself updated with new music, new technologies and skills.
  2. Creating mix tapes is very essential.
  3. Being Humble (Having an attitude doesn’t take you far)
  4. Practising at least once or twice a day
  5. Uniqueness

GhanaCelebrities.Com: What period in your life did you decide that I want to become a DJ?

When I was about 17 years old, I never had money to buy my own decks but I would stock up on records like Karen White, Bobby brown, Cameo then onto people like Aaliyah, biggie smalls, Total. I bought my first 1210s at the age of 19 that’s when I started to learn how to mix records.

GhanaCelebrities.Com: So French Kiss what is your specialty and who is your target audience?

My musical genre spreads wide from Soul, RnB, Hip-Hop, Highlife, Hip life, dancehall, rare groove, house to 70s & 80s boogie and I’ve been lucky to of played all over UK. What is exciting is the ability to explore different types of sounds at different venues catering for various preferences.

Therefore there is no one-target audience I just play for the masses and do everything to ensure that they enjoy it.

GhanaCelebrities.Com: What qualities would you have to hold to make a good DJ?

Creating your own distinctive style and identity.

GhanaCelebrities.Com: What is the best event that you have ever played at?

Accra 1999-I was playing at the carnival at the Independence Square (it was absolutely amazing) and a day I will never forget.

GhanaCelebrities.Com: Do you prefer to play in the club or at a private functions such as birthday parties, Christenings, etc?

I enjoy the atmosphere of both the club and private functions it’s always good to experience a wide range of events.

GhanaCelebrities.Com: Other than yourself, who do you think is one of the best DJs around at the moment?

DJ Jazzy Jeff to me is the best, his mixing and scratching abilities has always blown me away, the first time he came to London I heard him on kiss FM and recorded him and just played it over and over again.

GhanaCelebrities.Com: What has this industry taught you as a person?

It’s not about what you know but it’s about who you know. (Therefore building essential contacts is strongly required.)

GhanaCelebrities.Com: Who are your favorite Hip life artists at the moment?

VIP (They are the only Hip Life act that have been able to maintain their success and hold it from 1999 till date).

GhanaCelebrities.Com: Apart from DJing what are your other interests?

Business, Fashion and Music Production I have recently set up FK Record Label.  I currently have a very talented artist who will be blowing up very soon called Marcus Beatz.
