As you may be aware, Ghana Movie Award organizers flew some of our Ghanaian celebrities to catch this year’s Cannes Film Festival’s fever. I cannot give the full list of those who made it to Cannes on the ticket of Ghana Movie Awards but during a chit-chat with the founder of the Awards,  Mr Fred Nuamah mentioned that Yvonne Okoro, Majid Michel, Nadia Buari, Confused/Banned Actress-Yvonne Nelson, Juliet Ibrahim, John Dumelo and others were able to make it to Cannes…

Jackie Appiah and RoselynNgissah could not be part of the delegation, probably because  they had other important businesses to attend to. The trip to Cannes was partly sponsored by Lufthansa and supported by Golden Tulip Hotel.

Heerr! What is Yvonne Okoro wearing in pictures 10, 11,12? A sports jacket she borrowed from Abdul Salam or Majid Michel huh?Do you want to know what really went down there when our stars got to Cannes? I will give you the full gist soon, meanwhile enjoy the photos below… Click on photos to enlarge for proper view.

  3. Love pic 8. Can someone tell me what they were doing there? It just seems like they were on vacation. I’ve not seen any pix that shows them doing anything else other than hanging out. Were they there to hang out, do business, network what, attend event/workshops to learn and improve the Ghanaina/African movie industry? Any official report forthcoming?

  10. I think the experience was wonderful…….but as an African American who is doing research for her thesis in the black arts I must say that no one really acknowledges both Ghanaian and Nigerian actors and actresses here in the States. I thought it would be exciting to tell some of my Black American family about some of strides and successes in Ghanaian and Nigerian moves but it was all for not. Truth be told many Ghanaian and Nigerians do not acknowledge the Ghana/Nigerian movie industry when they get to the US or the UK. I remember someone from Lagos and Tema who are currently studying at Georgetown stated that many of the stars (especially those who are posted) egos get deflated quickly after a run in with some African Americans. Genevive Nnaji, Van Vicker ( who had his butt handed to him by a Black American in New York……hilarious), Majid Michel who was scared to pieces when he was in the Virginia/DC/Maryland area after someone called him a fake ass Terrence Howard and others. If the Ghanaian movie industry wants to really succeed they must take an honest look at the caliber of actors and actresses….let’s face it no studio (Warner Brothers, Paramount, MGM etc). would pay Nadia Buari 1 million dollars a picture ( or Yvonne Nelson for that matter) to be in their movie. Why you may ask? Because they cannot act…..there I said it……..sorry for those who feel angry but it is not that serious…..Juliet Ibrahim cannot act………John Dumelo has a sexy pot belly but that is it……..Martha A?……she looks like Wesley Snipes in the movie Too Wong Foo……….Yvonne Okoro mimics Black American females too much in her acting and it is just sad…be yourself boo….So this Cannes thing I believe is a ploy to Chris and other people who have finally seen the light and are calling out these artists to do their job. I mean really who wants to really here anything from Juliet Ibrahim or Nicole Samonsa (whatever her name is). Oh and Chris trust me when I tell you they were not on anyone’s panel why pay attention to these people when all other well trained professional dialogue decision makers are there. And I am not stupid I know that you Ghana and Nigerian actors and actresses read this so I am telling you as a Black American stop trying to fool your people with this fake facade of celebrity…………..I would rather pluck my toenails off on each toe and walk through the Sahara desert and dip my feet in hydrogen peroxide than to see these people perform. Sorry.

    • Cassandra, can’t say what you wrote is a surprise. The truth is when these celebs get to the USA they do get a rude awakening. Someone once told me that there is a particular celeb who went to LA hoping that just by her walking down Rodeo Drive she would be discovered by some Hollywood executive (and this was coming from someone, a producer, in the Ghanaian movie industry). LOL. Your piece is refreshing. But at the same time I have to say, that somewhere in Ghana, there is a star that will shine brightly internationally. God only knows who and when. These ‘celebs’ needs to drop their egos, humble themselves, take some serious acting classes, get good management teams and most of all GET VERY GOOD AND PROFESSIONAL PUBLIC RELATIONS AGENTS. They need to hear the truth and girl, you brought it. Thanks.

  11. i wonder why they invited yvonne nelson since GC claim she’s been banned , for if its true that she is banned for acting, i dont think they will even bother to spend money on her to travel abroad or in anyway.that goes to show that all these banned stuff r all lies, by the i think nadia looks crazily hot!!

  12. @goodies she probably paid her own ticket since she is starting her own lace front wig collection, and clothing line, but seriously it amazes me that this girl is banned from being in any movie but yet u see her jettin off to different countries like every month  and i know damn right tickets ani’t cheap

  13. well first things first there are some people out here who truly are hating and for what i don’t know. there are the wanna be first to down and make another feel uncomfortable just because their EGO needs to be checked. Cassandra when and what allowed you to watch african movies in the first place what caused you to watch and continue to watch. before you get testty ask yourself you are comparing these people to who? Angelina Jolie or Angela Bassette? Denzel Washington or Al Pacino(which there are times I hear and see that in Micheal Majid) but the question is what are you expecting? the art in which they bring is based on the strory that is presented to them. you made comments on Juliet Ibrahim who is nothing but another Marilyn Monroe beauty to the nine’s but cannot act who’ve won awards simply because they were beautiful. you also made a comment about Majid who by the way can act his ass off?it was handed to him by who? you failed to mention.

well all that doesn’t matter i would rather watch African films with my family so that they all can watch i don’t have to pick and choose and although it seems that the actors are not giving their full potential…the story THE STORY has to be ABOUT something before the artist can truly perform..so if you want to be mad direct it to the individuals who come up with the stories…….smooches
