Shirley Frimpong Manso’s ‘A Sting In A Tale’ Rules Ghana Movie Awards 2010! Agya Koo, Majid Michel, Kyeiwaa, Jackie Appiah, Nadia Buari & Others Were Winners Too…

Jackie Appiah @ Ghana Movie Awards 2010

After a Story Writer writes a remarkable story to  make a good movie, the story is then translated into a script form by a Scriptwriter who sometimes doubles as the story writer.

Actors and actresses are approached for casting by the Casting Crew. With crew and behind the scene individuals such as Costumier/Wardrobe, Location Manager, Make Up Artist, Welfare Personnel,  Continuity, Light/ Sound, Graphic, Post Production, Editor, Director Of Photography, Producers, and Director, shooting then begin.

After weeks to months to years of shooting and editing, there is a movie to be sold and be watched. After selling the movie and making the millions (in whichever currencies), what follows next? Acknowledgement if you ask me.  And that is what the Ghana Movie Awards seeks to achieve, to acknowledge and award the people who have one way or the other contributed to the growth of the Ghana Movie Industry.

Ladies and Gentleman! You are welcome. The Ghana Movie Awards 2010 dubbed the ‘Party of the Season’ took place yesterday at the Accra International Conference Centre. Indeed the show started a little late than expected but for a first attempt, I think the organizers should be pardoned.

The first award on the night went to Alhaji Abdul Sallam of Venus Films. He won the Best Story with Who Loves Me. The surprise awards on the night were the Favourite Actor and Actress awards which went to the two banned actors; Kofi Adjorlolo and Yvonne Nelson. Both awards was met with ‘oooh’ and ‘ahhh’, clearly the audience showed their dislike for the winners.

People GhanaCelebrities.com spoke to after the awards were of the views that, Agya Koo and Kyeiwaa should have won the above awards, not the actual recipients.

Some argued that in terms of popularity, which was the yardstick to determine the winners, they felt Agya Koo and Kyeiwaa should have taken the awards home.

Sparrow Production’s Shirley Frimpong Manso was adjudged the best director (English) for her work-‘A Sting In A Tale’. Her works ruled the awards night.

She won the following awards: Best Writing – Adapted Or Original Screen Play For ‘A Sting In A Tale’, ‘Best Make Up’ To Jane A. Williams (Check Mate). Best Cinematography: Bob J (A Sting In A Tale), Best Original Song: A Sting In A Tale (4×4).  Best Music Score: ‘A Sting In A Tale’.

Leila Djansi’s Sinking Sands also won the following awards; Best Art Direction, Best Wardrobe: Mabel Germain, Best Move / African Collaboration And Best Picture.

In the supporting role categories, Clement Bonney a.k.a. Mr. Beautiful and Nana Ama McBrown picked the honours in the local language categories whiles Nadia Buari and John Dumelo won in the English language.

For the actor and actress in the leading role both English and in Local Language was won by Majid Michel, Jackie Appiah, Rose Mensah a.k.a. Kyeiwaa and Kofi Adu a.k.a. Agya Koo respectively.

It came out that though Jackie Appiah was adjudged as the winner, her other 3 nominees in the category Yvonne Okoro, Juliet Ibrahim, Roselyn Ngissah will all receive a statuettes each.

The most bizarre of the night was after Agya Koo was announced as the best actor in his category; the stage was crowded by all the nominees in the category.

Another thing I noticed about all the award winners is that, all of them showed their gratitude to the organizers. They really appreciated it and wished the organizers well. This was superb!

Majid Michel, Jackie Appiah, Agya Koo and Kyeiwaa will be voted for by a 13 panel judges making the MAG Jury. After the votes, the Overall Best Actor and Overall Best Actress will be declared and each of them will drive home a new Zotye SUV.

Agya Koo has said that, he is going back to Kumasi with one of the cars. Do you think Majid Michel can spoil his party? What about Jackie Appiah and Kyeiwaa?

The voting by the Jury takes places today at the Golden Tulip Hotel at 5:30. its strictly by invitation and opened to the media. GhanaCelebrities.com will be there to bring you proceedings. Once again kudos to Fred Nuamah.
