My best friend relocated to a new neighbourhood and she is finding it difficult to accept the practices of the various churches near her current residence. She cannot therefore find a place to fellowship.
I was perplexed when she said to me,” I cannot find a church out here and I have even been using Google to help me in my search”.
I have been to her new place several times and knowing that there was a church few minutes away from her house, I wondered what she was talking about.
After further clarification, I realize she is just finding it difficult to find a church that she thinks is ideal for her “Christian tenets and faith”.
Upon asking “what is wrong with that church near your house”, she quickly said, I went there sometimes and all they did was collect money from us. “Can you believe we gave out offering 5 times in one service? I will certainly be broke if I go there again. They are running that church like some business”.
For the other churches, it is either the pastor is too arrogant, sounds crafty or the congregation is full of “gossipers”.
I have personally attended a church for a prayer meeting where the Apostle/Prophet held my forehead and tried extensively to push me down. (There seems to be so many Prophets around of late).
I didn’t want to be called a “witch” so guess what I did, I pegged my legs firmed to the ground and twisted my neck till he realized I am not going to fall for his push.
I sincerely believe there are some genuine churches and pastors out there but to be frank, the corrupted and cunning ones seem to be spreading rapidly.
My friend is still in search of a church which she can confidently fellowship with. I have also had quite a few ordeals with some churches and have heard a lot about churches/pastors from my friends and family.
The above experiences and stories bring me to my questions for this week.
- What is your ideal church?
- Are you happy with your place of worship in relations to their general practises?
- Has any experience chased you away from attending a church or have you ever left your church for some reason.
- What is the most unfortunate story you have heard of a Church/Apostle/Pastor (no names please).
Oh dear Gossip Mama that sounds like GBH ( grievous bodily harm) what that pastor tried to do to you lol. Well to be frank it’s no laughing matter at the end of the day. I too have been to a few churches in search of the one that suits my sprit and soul best. But one thing I knew I had to do before even attempting this search is to pray for direction and guidance or yes I will end up in a church where the intentions have been sabotaged from day one. I guess what most people will say about this is you go to church for the fellowship with God and not the money crazed pastors in the churches.
Though I guess such issues can shake your faith of the kind of church you attend. I do feel there is nothing wrong with making your weekly tithes and offerings and other donations if you can so afford but am sure this really puts some people off if is goes on and on…church building fund then when the new church is built they start up a new one to move again. I found a great Redeem church not too far from me and am very happy there, I’m new to the church but it’s not to big and the people seem warm and welcoming. Well I do have stories but can’t say! Although I did go to one MASSIVE church where the Pastor ( a no nonsense man) had to expose some of the practises of the congregation. He revealed that a male member of the church had impregnated 5 women in the congregation at a time and now they were fighting over him…hmmmm
hmmm nsem pii. it took me more than two years to find my ideal church. i just love my new church. but he problem is there r soo many fake churches out there especially in gh dat its so hard to choose. i think my ideal church is da traditonal churches like presby. its crazy how this so pastors r turning family members against each other. its happening now in my own family.
well i love ma church.the church of pentecost nd i will never tread it for anythin.i went to some church with ma ex boyfriend sometime ago on da 31st nite.da church is a mixture of ghanains nd nigerians nd da pastor is a nigerian.everythin was ok from da begining till after da pastor finished preaching.the pastor told da congregation to take a white handkerchief, form a queue nd go for anionting.they will go nd wipe da pastors face with da white handkerchief, some ppl wiping off da pastors sweat with da handkerchief nd then wiping their own faces with it.i couldnt beleive it nd immediatly told ma ex to drive me home cos i wouldnt be part of it.he said dat his church nd i gotta accept it nd dat if we get married dat where we will be worshipping nd i shld get used to it.i tot he was kidding but he wasnt nd dat was da end of our relationship……….
