I am impressed with the steps being taken by Michael Essien and the support rendered him by Muntari and the others. Michael Essien stormed his home town “Awutu” to embark on some charitable work. What baffles my mind comes in a simple question. What happened to Charity begins at home?
Awutu is Essien’s home town but I believe there is a closer home which is his “family” than Awutu.
As much as I am pleased with what he has done, It would be prudent and more glorying for him to sort out the state of his own father before extending his charitable work to the wider community. What do you think?

Chelsea star Michael Essien received a hero’s welcome when he made a visit to his home town, Awutu on Tuesday. The midfielder was accompanied by officials from Chelsea football team and the charity organizations Purepersona, the Michael Essien Foundation, Chelsea Foundations and Right to Play.
In Awutu, about one hour’s drive from Accra, Essien spoke to local dignitaries, and then went on to unveil two initiatives to promote health and reduce disease in the town. The midfielder also took part in a promotion called “Reading Goals” to encourage children to get into the habit of reading books.
Reading Goals is a series of books created with help from the publishing company Pearson Education and the Ghanaian Ministry of Education to inspire children in the country to read. They are based on Essien’s own experiences and he handed copies to youngsters in front of a mass of people before the football final took place.
Essien went on to take part in a sports day for about 5,000 school children from the Senya Breku district, watching them play football, volley ball and netball. The day with Michael Essien was organized by his foundation, a charity that is based in Accra and was created last year.
Essien was joined by compatriot Sulley Muntari to commission two projects in his hometown. Essien opened a water bore hole in the centre of the town and new public toilets funded by his foundation.
“It is so good to be home and be able to give something back to my community. It is great to be here, where I used to play football, and the amount of people here is really special, it makes me really proud,” comments Essien.
The Inter Milan midfielder Sulley Muntari said: “I came along to offer my support to Michael because what he is doing with his foundation is brilliant. He is a great blessing and a great brother; I have known him for seven years now and the relationship is very strong.
I just love him, that’s the thing. He gets a great reception in Ghana, it is always important to feel welcomed by your own people, and he is doing some great stuff. He is giving back to the community and he has a very good heart, I am very pleased to know him and very happy to be here.”

Thats really good to hear but i just thing could we drop this “beeing mean to his father” thing.
We all dont know what is going on its not the first time were we hear stories of Parents who abandoned their children and when those children get far all of the sudden they show up.
I dont really think he would do charity work and actually go to the place to see whats taken place and then abandoned his DAD there must be a reason.
@abena, dont mind their pull him, her attitude ,who knows these people who write about our stars negatively are worse. what is your problem ?
chris i knw this is out of line but did they ever premiere sinking sand last saturday? just checking.
@madam social,
Yea it was premiered, waiting for some exlcusive photos and I will publish them. Hope to get them by the close of the day. Btw, how are you honey?
@Author: Chris-Vincent Agyapong Febiri, i m doing great darling. i m patiently waiting the pics
ughhhhhhhhhhhh Ghanacelebrity, essien can do whatever he wants with his money
@Sarah,
No offense Sarah. Yes, Essien can do whatever he pleased with his dollars but he gotta solve the problem with his old ass father before his dad get ship to underground. I love money too but without solving a major issue with family member “can” live with you for the rest of your life even if you don’t care. I think the issue between Essien and Pap will not go away until they on good terms. Sometimes, a person doesn’t know what he or she want until is GONE.
For some reasons I think Essien was brainwashed by his mother or sister. Anyways, I tip my hat for him for giving back to the people of Awutu.
who knows these hypocrites are worse in their own way yet they seem to potray themselves as ANGELS.
I can Ameyaw was there… It almost always happens. Why wouldn’t he do so well for his fam first. All the same he’s using some of his money for a good cause. Well done.
maybe his estranged father should help himself first so that Essien can see he is a changed man and then maybe the support will come.
its high time the mentality of the bootstraps model be embrassed by our society, It states that the best way for a person or group of people to come up in the world is to create their own opportunites and lift themselves up by their bootstraps, similar to evolution.
Good job guys, its always good to give back. As far as his father did he take care of him or abandon them when he was born becos there seem to be some animosity towards him. If he didnt how does he expect him to have sympathy and help?smh
WELL GOOD FOR THEM.FIRST TIME OF HEARING THAT ESSIEN HAS DONE THIS.WHEN PEOPLE WERE DOING IT , I WAS LIKE WHERE ARE THOSE WHO ARE COLLECTING THE BIG MONIES.SO I AM GLAD HE FINALLY DID IT.CONGRATS TO THEM ALL.GOD BLESS YOU.
itz about time irresponsible fathers are made to pay the price for their actions….essien’s dad is reaping wateva he sowed….kudos to essien for diz charity work to da people of ewutu
@available, yeah i agree with u 101%.it abt time dis so called fathers start been responsible.Do sum ppl kno de pain it cause to be abandon by ones parent.Im not saying essien shldnt help him but its time ppl stop complaing abt him taking care of his dad.Do ull kno wht goes behind close doors?Essien we appreciate wht u doing for de community man n hope u cont’nue it.Thanks
essien wouldnt hav ignored the dad hwhen he had not ignored his son when he was nobdy. our fathers are fond of doing this. its tym. but essien please forgive ur dad. ok. please.
I THINK SULE IS LOOKING GOOD HERE.
PLEASE DONT TELL THAT MAN WHAT TO DO WITH HIS MONEY…OPERATIVE WORD BEING “HIS”
I HAVE A LOT OF RESPECT FOR THE MAN ESSIEN, HE’S VERY EXCEPTIONAL AND MOTIVATING,EVEN THOUGH HE APPEARS GENTLE! I KNOW HE IS A BAD GUY IN A GOOD FORM.
