Only a handful of directors have the desire to try new things in their movies but this is just like a hobby in the eyes of writer and director Shirley Frimpong-Manso. From her first movie ‘Life and Living It’ to the very last one ‘Check Mate’, Shirley Frimpong-Manso has explored most genres of movies.
But her newest movie ‘‘6 Hours To Christmas’ falls in a genre which might be new to some movie enthusiasts.
Shirley calls ‘6 Hours To Christmas’ the latest addition to the repertoire of Sparrow Productions a ‘Dark Comedy’. Sounds interesting huh? If for any reason none of the directors has the knack to try new things, Shirley has the ‘balls’ for that and its paying off for her big time.
Surely it doesn’t cost a thing to try new things or be pace setter but Shirley is able to venture into a new genre, which is comedy and yet excels. This goes to explain that it wasn’t a fluke that she conquered the whole of Africa at the last year’s African Academy Movie Awards.
‘6 Hours To Christmas’ in other words falls in the popular saying that ‘second thoughts are the best’. Having a second thought of whatever you are about to do could be a make or break for you. It could probably be the end of your breakthrough.
Ladies will always implicate guys as cheaters. To me there is nothing like why men cheat, more so the focus should be on why humans cheat. If a woman can boldly offer the ‘thing’ in between her legs as a mere Christmas gift ‘just like that’ when even she was dating a minister close to her dad’s age surely means ladies cheat as well.
The movie opens with a scene of Reggie, a young advertising creative director played by Chris Attoh in bed with his girlfriend Akos played by Marian Lempogo. Before leaving the house to work to enjoy the party organized at his office, his girlfriend promises him dinner and fireworks before the stroke of midnight to make way to the next day, which is Christmas day.
After the office party, Chris meets Pebbles played by Damilola Adegbite, his office colleague, the girl he’s lusted after for a long time. She said to Chris … so where is my Christmas present? Chris responded ‘I thought you were bringing me one’. She then asked Chris to follow her home so she can give it to him.
In her quest to offer the Christmas present Chris finds impossible to refuse sets the tone for the hilarious movie, Shirley describes as ‘Dark Comedy’. The ending of the movie leaves movie enthusiasts to use their thinking cap and it’s up to you to find out how it ends yourself.
Do you have any idea about the best present to give on Christmas? Or are you tired of giving out the same present every Christmas? ‘6 Hours To Christmas’ will give you a clue.
Shirley blends old and experienced actors as well as new budding talents to make a must watch movie. ‘6 Hours To Christmas’ stars Chris Attoh, Damilola Adegbite, Ghana Actors Guild President Nii Odoi Mensah, Sena Tsikata (Played Marcia in Thinks We Do For Love), Marian Lempogo and Benny Ashun.
The movie will premiere October 29, 2010 at the National Theatre. Tickets are available at Koala, Airport Shell and National Theatre for a cool GHC 25.00
‘6 Hours To Christmas’ is the 6th movie written and directed by Shirley Frimpong Manso for Sparrow Productions after Life and Living It, Scorned, Perfect Picture, A Sting in a Tale and Checkmate.
