If the Reports below from Kickoff.Com are fully true, then my respect for Michael Essien and his career achievements is going to be thrown into the window.
After failing to sufficiently take care of his “old aged” father due to the fact that his Dad did not perform his fatherly duties when he was a child, the Chelsea football star is reported to be denying Ghana his services as a talented footballer.
I guess jilting is a disease affecting Essien’s personality. He jilted one of the most beautiful Actresses in Ghana-Nadia Buari after calling it a quit with Dela Ackumey, another beautiful Ghanaian young girl.
Now, the football ace seems to be jilting his own country and disposing the very fountainhead of our national pledge “I pledge myself to the service of Ghana”.
Essien was unable to play for Ghana during this year’s Fifa World Cup tournament as a result of an injury he suffered during the Africa Cup Of Nations.
However, Essien is back to the field and reports has it that, he has decided to concentrate on his club football and give international football a pause, ruling him out of Ghana’s opening National Cup qualifier against Swaziland.
Essien is said not to have been happy with the attention the Ghana football Association gave him during his injury. He is therefore going to put his club ahead of his country.
I guess when he retires from football; he will stay in his club then, not come down to Ghana…

The Chelsea midfielder is back playing again after picking up a knee injury on Ghana duty at the Nations Cup in January and has played the full length of both Chelsea’s official games this season.
But reports say he has decided to concentrate on club matters in the meantime effectively ruling him out of Ghana’s opening Nations Cup qualifier against Swaziland in September.
Essien reportedly said: “I think I will be taking a break. Not retiring, just not playing all the time. I have to take the right decision for myself.
“I don’t know whether they will be disappointed because they have done fine without me.”
Rumours of Essien’s intentions to put his international career on hold began circulating last weekend. KickOffGhana.com has learnt from close associates of the player that he is grossly unhappy with the attention he got from the country’s football authorities during his long term injury.
That though will not stop the certain backlash that will follow if the reports are confirmed especially for a player whose commitment has been questioned by his critics.
Only this week Ghana coach Milovan Rajevac had said he was looking forward to the player’s return.
“Michael is still an important component of this side, he is a special player,” Rajevac told FIFA.com. “Essien brings a special dimension to this team. We are looking forward in having him back with us.”
Essien has 51 caps for Ghana and has represented the country at every level except for the Olympics.
who the heck do you think you are to ask WHAT AT ALL IS
MICHAEL ?are you alright? are you not the same who has been saying you can do without HIM so let him be .HYPO CRITE
i think it is too early to judge MICHEAL. Let us for him to come out and confirm the story. So please GHANAIAN’S let us be patient.
lol. na true dis be ooh. The double-sidedness is too much.
On some real talk though, Chris, are you saying a man cannot take a time off from ‘serving his country’ if his health is in jeopardy? I think we’re judging his decision too early, though, I personally think he’s going on the right path based on the article. I mean, without his foot, he’s no Essien. And like ‘Nona’ said, there was an article here with numerous responses from Ghanaians condemning Essien for not been able to partake in the world cup. All of a sudden, he was NOT needed and welcome anymore. And now that he’s taking care of himself, we’re complaining? I have to agree with Nona in this case. I sense a slight splash of hypocrisy. Unless of course, it’s all in the name of keeping his name at the tip of the fan’s tongue. Press On
@That Guy,
Good comment out there but I do not remember writing anything on here myself to say we do not care either Essien plays for Ghana or not. I guess it was some readers comment you must be talking about.
That did not come from me so where is the hypocrisy coming from? Maybe u meant Ghanaians in general sometimes play the hypocrisy game…
@Author: Chris-Vincent Agyapong Febiri,
Yeah Chris, I was talking about comments people left on the mentioned article. Am not sure who the author was. Yeap, the hypocrisy of the commentators in general is what I wanted to lamented on. Nothing personal. Cool
@Author: Chris-Vincent Agyapong Febiri,what do you know about what led MICHAEL to take such a decision? and you are there asking WHAT AT ALL IS WRONG WITH HIM ?come on be genuine to yourself, is it not exposing him to insults ?so what are you talking about? He says he is taking a BREAK take it or leave it.
I am a true Essien fan and is disappointed with this news. However I will give him the benefit of the doubt until I hear the news from himself. Gh can do so well with or wihtout him and he’s definitely not the team. So let’s see how it goes.
What’s wrong with him,is because of pieces of Shit like this author here and loads of Ghanaian’s who will praise u when u are doing good and turn around to want to eat your meat when u make a mistake.U Stupid Fuck,when he got injured,did GFA pay for a single dime in his treatment?….And now that there are competitions at his club who pay him good money,u are writing this stupid article asking whats wrong with him for wanting to commit to his Club??…..U must be a real Asshole
i’ve always known that this guy cares more for Chelsea than for his Motherland. this news isn’t shocking to some of us at all cos we’ve always seen it coming. was he expecting the GFA to move it’s offices to his house b4 he knows they care. Is this guy not the same person who had the then President Kuffour visit him in his house. can u imagine..
@Opanin,
Opanin, for your info, Kalito’s comment that’s above yours, is speaking of Ghanaians/People with your train of thought. People that feels like somebody owns them something because they’re successful even though you have nothing to do with their success. Why won’t you get off your cheer-leader ass and do something to make Ghana proud too instead of cheering for Essien? Where do you get the nerve to speak of a man that has done so much to uplift the name of this country? Michael is doing the RIGHT THING FOR HIMSELF and his career and that does not mean he does not care anymore. Get a grip. The whole world at large knows his name and can associate him with Ghana instantly. Can the same thing be said about you? Know your roll and play it. At the end of the day, he’s just a mer man and cannot save the whole ‘motherland’ by himself. Get off your cheer-leading zone and do something to make the ‘motherland’ proud too.
Kalito was absolutely right. Somebody once said “Be careful when they’re praising you, because that means they’re about to turn on your next”. Your wack comment is clear proof that this adage is true. I just have a dis-taste for people with a sense of entitlement when they’re entitled to nothing. The thing is, he made himself and we should be glad he’s looking back and contributing to help our team, instead of thinking HE MUST help our team. Enough with this calabash attitude of Ghanaians.
IF THE GUY IS SAYING HE IS TAKING TIME OFF ALLOW HIM.I AM TIRED OF TODAY MY KNEEL THE NEXT DAY THAT.I THINK THAT WILL MAKE HIM MORE FITTER.HE ACTULLY NEEDS THIS.
which one dont you people understand? the person says he wants a break from the national team thats all. dont let us talk about service the nation, coz we all guilty of not rendering any service to the nation. everybody, including you is thinking of how to make some money to take care, i mean good care of himself so if micheal wants to concerntrate on his carer at chelsea to get good money, there is nothing wrong and nothing can ever be wrong with it
tune your radio to those self acclaim good sport stations and listen to the babbling, they go to the extent of allowing people to call in and insult him. it is very simple “he wants a break”
