Reader’s Mail: A Popular Movie Director Asked Me For Sex Before Movie Role..

Yvonne Nelson At The Game's Premier

Most Ghanaian celebrities we have faced with the question of trading sex for movie roles in the Ghanaian movie industry have denied ever doing that but knowing of its existence in the industry.

I quite remember during our Audio interview with Yvonne Nelson (posted below again); she also acknowledged the fact that this dirty practice has been deep rooted in our entertainment industry. But she has not been asked for sex in exchange for any role….

Some good for nothing directors (except their big pot bellys) are taking advantage of desperate and talented young girls, who seek to enter the Ghanaian movie industry.  It is sad to hear or read mails like the one below. No wonder our screens are filled with so many talentless actresses.

How on earth can a man of one’s father’s age with little money to produce crap movies ask a girl of his daughter’s age to sleep with him before considering giving her a role… Pathetic indeed!… Read below what happened to a young sister I spoke to today after receiving her mail in her attempt to become a movie star in Ghana….

Dear GhanaCelebrities.Com,

I have tried calling your contact number provided on GhanaCelebrities.Com several times with no success. I have therefore decided to write and bring to your attention to help bring it to the attention of your readers and the entire Ghanaian population the undesired sex for movie role practice going on within the Ghanaian movie industry.

I am a young Ghanaian woman of 22 years of age, a graduate from an American University (Major in Drama). I have always had an interest to become a movie actress and many around me have enhanced my confidence by saying, I have the talent owing to what they have seen from my College theatre works.

Being a Ghanaian with strong ties to my motherland coupled with the recent quality trend our movie industry is taking, I decided to come to Ghana to help the developing industry with my talent and in turn become the actress I have always dreamt of becoming.

After months of audition, I landed on a role but did not like the assigned character since it demanded a little bit of nudity from me. I said no to this role because I did not want to start a career with a nude role and image.

The director who gave me this role was not ready for a switch and insisted I take it or close my eyes to becoming an actress in Ghana. I decided to go for the latter option.

Just last Saturday, the director called me to meet him at Accra Mall for a discussion about the rejected role and possibly a switch or amendment. I am not going to say, I am desperate but I have the edge to become what I long for. I therefore thought God has listened to my prayers so happily decided to meet him.

After few minutes of greetings and the usual how have you been things, he told me he can give me the lead role  and push of  the actress ( a famous Ghanaian actress)  he has fixed there if only I would meet him at a hotel in East Legon that night. With shock taking over my voice, I asked, What for?

He said for a good night together and I shouldn’t worry since most of the big names I see in movies have done it before. Nothing comes free and easy in life, it is just one night and you will forever be a star, he said.

He mentioned about 4 names of actresses he has slept with before giving them roles. I am not sure how true this is but I couldn’t believe what I heard.

I jumped off my chair, told him I am not that kind of girl and got into a taxi. I would be glad if other young Ghanaians out there are made aware of such ungodly acts by some of these movie directors. Together, we can say No to their cheap sex for movie role tricks. Thank You
