‘Kε Vim’ has been used on the build-up to the first anniversary of the Zain Waakye Party. The anniversary version was held last Sunday, the 4th of July 2009 at the Aviation Social Centre.

The party moved from the usual venue at Auntie Muni inside Labone to a spacious venue where the event recorded large numbers of facebookers (call them facebook ‘gbee’. Gbee is used to describe addicts of something in the local parlance) gathered to celebrate the 1st anniversary of the Facebook Waakye Party.

The party began at 10:00am but yours truly got there at 1:00pm. Soon every available space at the parking lot had been occupied with vehicles, while hundreds of people ready to party made their way to the forecourt of the venue.

The first edition of the party took place in June last year at Auntie Muni’s Waakye Joint inside Labone. There have been three separate waakye parties after, including the pre-anniversary party on 1st May 2010.

There were lots of activities for interested people. DJs on the turntables were Nii Ayi Tagoe, Sammy Forson and Advicer. Papa Sly, Norkus and Comotion were the MCs.

Most of the people GhanaCelebrities.com spoke to indicated they had come there to enjoy and drink their sorrows away. The cruel nature in which the Black Stars were eliminated from the World Cup forced some peeps to come, have fun and forget about the sad incident.

Phones and movie tickets were given out as well. It was nice to see people enjoying their waakye in ‘leaves’.

High Point

The high point of the show was during the point when the organizers of the event led by Nabil, Pappy, Eugene and Ayi Tagoe joined the MCs Papa Sly and Commotion on stage to partner Shabbo Crew Band to perform some popular songs to the crowd.

Though some of the songs contain vulgar lyrics, the people cared less. They just danced to it in the one-logologo-line fashion.

Low Point

For many people, the show was getting better until the fashion show by Exotic Models made the place a slightly boring. Apart from Iwan and Guru’s performances, the rest were an eyesore. The least said about them, the better. The party could still have gone on without some performances though.

The party was a success but organizers must take the party back to Auntie Muni’s joint or intensify publicity if they want to continue to host it at Aviation next time round.
