Ghana’s WASH United campaign is an event setting the scene for a drive around the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. The campaign aims to unite all Ghanaians to take advantage of the enthusiasm generated by the World Cup to sensitize the public to push for the right to water and sanitation to be written into the national constitution and to promote personal and public hygiene as a way of life.
The Campaign was launched on the same day the World Cup commenced at the British Council Hall, Accra. Before the Ghana’s Black Stars match against their counterparts from Germany, the WASH United World Toilet Cup football competition was held.
After the competition two teams emerged as winners and they were awarded their prizes. Before the presentation of the prizes, Iwan washed each of the winner’s hands with the message that, they need to wash their hands with soap and water whenever they visited the lavatory.
Iwan lighted up the park which was filled with football players and onlookers who were ready to watch the match between Ghana and Germany which was screened live by AngloGold Ashanti.
