Soon to be ex English Champions Chelsea have settled on a manager for the 2016/2017 season, Italian national team boss Antonio Conte.
The club announced the appointment with a statement Monday, noting that the Italian would join after training Italy at this summer’s European Championships in France.
Conte made his name with Juventus, which he led to three successive Italian Championships, before taking charge of the Italian national team. He also had a successful career as a player with Juventus, winning five Serie A titles, as well as the Champions League, Coppa Italia and Uefa Cup, captaining the side as well.
Chelsea were on the market for a manager after dismissing Jose Mourinho late last year, with Guus Hiddink taking charge of the team until the end of the season.
“I am very excited about the prospect of working at Chelsea Football Club. I am proud to be the coach of the national team of my country and only a role as attractive as manager of Chelsea could follow that.” He told the club’s official site.
“I am looking forward to meeting everyone at the club and the day-to-day challenge of competing in the Premier League.
“Chelsea and English football are watched wherever you go, the fans are passionate and my ambition is to have more success to follow the victories I enjoyed in Italy.
“I am happy we have made the announcement now so everything is clear and we can end the speculation. I will continue to focus on my job with the Italian national team and will reserve speaking about Chelsea again until after the Euros.”
