Ghana has a hot new talent blowing up the music scene and its airwaves, in the form of Tiffany. This new rising star has no doubt begun to establish herself as a force to be reckoned with on the music circuit. Although she hasn’t been on the music circuit for too long, she has already rubbed shoulders with the very best of the best, including performing with Fat Joe and Omarion during their respective concerts in Ghana. Her talent has also seen her grace various concerts, such as the ‘Ghana Rocks’ concert and, ‘Night with Naija.’
Though she may be enjoying a formidable amount of success now, the road to fame was not a particularly smooth one for Tiffany- a high-school drop-out, she has had to endure a long and arduous battle before getting where she is today.
Born Antoinette Tiffany Owusu on the 20th of March 1987, she attended the Cambridge International School in Kumasi, before moving onto the Yaa Asantewaa High School, which she later dropped out of. However, her persistence for fame and fortune was such that she began to pursue her education again, and made it through to I.P.S. to study SIM U.K.
By embedding her childhood struggle in her lyrics, she ensured that her story would be relatable to a wide spectrum of people. Her first single, ‘How We Do It,’ featuring award winning artist, Richie, was a great success and marked her place within the Ghanaian music scene. Following the plaudits she received with ‘How We Do It,’ she went on to create further hits including ‘Aboa Bi’ featuring Fresh Prince, and one of the most popular Ghanaian tracks of recent times, ‘Facebook Boy’ featuring Jane.
Heavily influenced by hip-hop greats like The Notorious BIG, MC Lyte, and 2Pac, Tiffany verified the story behind her lyrical content: “I write about the streets. I say things you will not dare talk about. Mine is about the struggle and the journey.”
Though the influence of hip-hop is obvious in her music, she has also managed to maintain African elements within her songs, and cites her mother as her inspiration for this.
It was recently rumoured that Tiffany had signed a deal with Lynx Entertainment; the star was quick to clarify this, stating: I am not with Lynx, but we are still family.”
Regardless of her tough background, Tiffany has battled against all odds to establish herself as one of Ghana’s most talented musicians. From a high-school dropout to a superstar-in-the-making, she hopes to set an example to her fans and children across the continent:
“One day, I would like to be remembered as the drop-out who came to the very top, and encouraged the African children to believe in themselves. I would like to leave behind a legacy that encourages you to urge on, even if the odds are against you.”
