Information reaching GhanaCelebrities.com indicates that last night in far away Toronto, Canada all attention was focused on the works of Ghanaian journalist and host of JS-International Assignment, Jefferson Kwamina Sackey for his contribution to human rights awareness.
JS-International Assignment is a first-class news documentary production going beyond the headlines to tell stories in-depth and from many points of view so you can make up your own mind about the news that affects you. The show’s hallmark is its “Reaching the Unreachable” franchise – demanding answers and finding the truth.
Over five minutes of applause and screams greeted the Ghanaian journalist by the over one thousand journalists and students who attended the NightForRights which showcased Jefferson’s humanitarian reports in Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Rwanda. The night also created awareness on the works of Journalists for Human Rights, a humanitarian organization that informs people about their rights. Founded in 2003, and having programs in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Sierra Leone, Liberia, Ghana, Malawi and Zambia, jhr currently reaches over 20-million Africans weekly with stories that inspire and create positive social change.
According to the Canadian based humanitarian organization, the works of Jefferson Sackey has not only spelt out the need for responsible journalism but has also inspired thousands of African journalists to actively get involved in spreading human rights awareness hence the need for this honour.
Jefferson Sackey started as a news anchor in 2003 as a television newscaster and journalist with TV Africa in Ghana. As West African freelance correspondent for DWTV in Berlin he covered some of the most sensitive humanitarian stories in Africa including Sudan, Somalia and Niger.
He joined Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs as a Media Relations Officer until his resignation in 2008. Since then he has been the host of JS-International Assignment that broadcasts from Canada to over fifteen countries globally including TV Africa in Accra.
