The desire to standout is just human nature. Unfortunately, some try too hard and end up committing silly mistakes. It happens with everybody. However, the same cannot be said of habitual fashion offender Jackie Appiah. Recently, Ghanacelebrities was heavily criticized for including Jackie in our first annual best dress list (2008). The disapproval sent our way by some readers is completely understandable. She made that list based on her style off set which is best described as pleasant.  However, Jackie’s onscreen looks over the years have slowly morphed from being fairly chic to disastrous; her onscreen style can be described in one word-tacky, with one hell of a capital T.

Jackie’s onscreen color scheme is usually off and does not relate to the occasion or environment.  She is usually decked out in vibrant coordinating colors more often than not accentuated with drag make up. The most irritating aspect of this is her penchant for tying huge scarves and flowers that belong in a vase around her neck-can she even breath with that suffocating thing around her neck all in the name of fashion?

Her onscreen styles make such garish statement-one that screams: ‘hey look at me! I’ve got style.’ The result is that she has no idea how cartoonish she looks; like most actresses, she deceives herself by thinking she is stylish. Sometimes, one can’t help but ask the question; what the Hell was she thinking? It is understandable that she is trying to be trendy but then she should be more concerned about styling herself in something that suits her roles.  It gets boring when every role she plays has the same costume theme and concept.  There is absolutely nothing appealing about a grown woman decked out in some teen spiced outfits.

Sometimes, she dresses in a mixture of bold prints, stripes and checks that end up making her look cluttered and add extra volume to her physique. However, her obsession with coordinating and her sometimes unrealistic accessorizing is downright outlandish. What happened to mixing bright and neutral shades for a balanced look?

The sea of ill- fitting, unflattering, gaudy outfits she has been parading in onscreen lately calls for concern. It’s about time people around let her in on the obvious;  she deludes herself by thinking she has style. There are certain details about one’s overall appearance that spell class and making a statement does not mean going overboard.  Obviously, she does have a say in her costume as well as having absolute control over her wardrobe in some cases. A simple yet fashionably elegant look is the key Jackie!
