DJ Alordia: No Long Ting!

Published by

Ghanacelebrities.com has been marvelled with the success and hard work of D.J Alordia and decided to find out what a typical day was like for him.Alordia is one of the Ghana’s biggest event producer in the UK, the 35 year old just recently organised a Dinner Dance in aid of Sickle Cell in Africa. He lives in Lakeside with wife Anastasia a cardiac nurse and 3 year old son.

“I always get up early, about 6:00 sharp, it gets hard at times waking up at this time because I go bed quite late. The first thing I do is to go on my computer – I brush my teeth before that though, so really that is what I do first thing. My computer determines what I do in a day – I check my mail and usually people who want me to organise their event wants to see me or promote their event.

I am not a breakfast person, I know it’s bad to skip it but I like to drink my pineapple juice in the morning. About 8:00 I drop my son off at school and from there I flow with what comes my way – meeting with musicians, organising an event, things like that, so it is not certain. I do not have a fixed thing I do in a day but there is always something new to do if you get what I’m saying. That is why I love my job because it’s not like an office job where you get into a routine of doing the same thing over and over again. I get to travel around the world and meet new people.

I use to be an auto-electrician 13 years ago before I became an events producer. It was so boring you can imagine and the pay wasn’t very good either. I had a passion for DJ-ing – I did this mostly at friends’ parties but then I realized it paid very well. I started organising themed parties and then it became big events. My first big event I did Ghana for Gold, if I can remember was in 1998 during the Olympics, I wanted to show the Ghana team support. Since then it’s been wonderful – I have no regrets leaving my other job.

Lunch is my favorite meal of the day because I get so hungry. I just grab a take way and that’s it. I don’t have time to sit down and munch – I have to eat on the go. I drive around to my sponsors for a brief meeting. I  also go on the radio to promote my events but I usually do this when I  have the artists with me. Most of the artists I use for my events are International and have to be flown into the UK. I have to sort out their visas and work permits a week before the event. I make sure I don’t disappoint my fans because they know with me its no long thing, what I say is what you get.  Sometimes I have to travel to the artists’ countries to make sure they are granted their visas in time.

“I flow with what comes my way”

At around 4:00 I pick my son up from school – which I love. That is the time me and my son really bond. He tells me about his day and  the girl he likes in his class. Don’t be surprised because he’s only 3, after all I’m his Dad. We know what we want. I cook dinner – I am the chef in the house, not that my wife doesn’t know how to cook but I like her to rest. She can’t be doing all the cooking in the house.

I check my mail again, talk to my wife about her day and the watch TV till about 12 midnight, I’m usually the last one to go to bed. When I finally get to my bed I just reflect on my day –most times my eyes shut before I can even think about my day.”
