Exclusive Interview With Ruff ‘n’ Smooth

Certainly, they are the epitome of the Ghanaian Swagger and are definitely sweet like Banana. GhanaCelebrities.Com caught up with the swagger dons namely ‘Ricky Nana Agyemang and Akan GH’ popularly known as Ruff ‘n’ Smooth at Heathrow Airport North London, before they jetted off to the motherland for a chit chat interview.

Not only did they create an electrifying impact within the Ghanaian community during the 53rd celebration,they have gained acceptance across the entire UK. During their stay in UK, Ruff n Smooth featured a live performance in Cardiff with UK artists Dretonio, Tribal Magz and Randy Valentine.

According to them, their experience of travelling to perform in the UK has been an unforgettable one and will make a return to London in August for Ghana Party in the Park. Ruff ‘n’ Smooth have a stronger desire to take hiplife music and their career to an international level. Below is our interview with Ruff ‘n’ Smooth.

GhanaCelebrities.Com: So the name Ruff ‘n’ Smooth… where did you guys  get the concept from?

The term represents the journey of the human life that we go through, we usually have our ups and downs. At the beginning of our music career, the music industry was hard for us to get into, now everything is smooth. ‘N’ symbolises the best thing that has happened in the African Industry.

GhanaCelebrities.Com: So were you always working as a Duo?

No both of us were working as a solo but I knew Akan Gh already as friend, but I was working on a song I wrote and I needed someone to sing the chorus for me. So I asked if he could sing the chorus for me, the collaboration was so tight that everything began to fall in place. So from then we hooked up.

GhanaCelebrities.Com: Recently there seems to be popular interest and demands in Naija beats within the Ghanaian radio sectors and Nightclubs, than Hiplife music why that is?

Well there are alot of upcoming artists in Ghana that are not yet heard but will soon take over, it’s a gradual process. Also the Ghanaian music producers are lacking the enthusiasm to invest and encourage our artists to successfully pursue our music internationally. Whereas, the Nigerians artist are provided the support and financial investment for their music to be successful. However things will definitely get better with our upcoming artists. We are hoping to be the first artists to make an international recognition.

GhanaCelebrities.Com: Your debut single ‘She got swagger’ what’s the meaning behind your song?

We wanted to a write a song to appreciate the beauty of Ghanaian woman. With regards to the term swagger we wanted to relate the song to the youth as well, because the term of commonly used amongst the youngsters.

GhanaCelebrities.Com: If you had one wish to collaborate with any artist in the world, who would it be?

It would have to Wyclef Jean because he understands the true meaning of music.

GhanaCelebrities.Com: What are the future plans for Ruff ‘n’ Smooth?

The sky is the beginning, in 2 years time we wana take take over Africa with Empire Entertainment and God on our side. We are aspiring to be the 1st Ghanaian stars to achieve international awards like the Grammys. Next month is the Ghana music Awards so we are hoping to achieve an award.
