World Cup Golden Ball Winner Luka Modric Wins Fifa Men's Player Of The Year Award – Ending Cristiano Ronaldo's Long Reign

The Croatian midfielder Luka Modric has been adjudged the best player in the world at the just ended Fifa Best Player award ceremony.
Modric beat off competition from Cristiano Ronaldo – winner of the award for the past three years – and Egyptian winger Mohammed Salah, to win the award.
Modric won the UEFA Champions League with Real Madrid last season, then led Croatia to the World Cup final in Russia in July.
He was the Golden Ball winner in Russia, awarded the Best Player of the tournament and he’s followed that up to win the Best Player award.
Modric becomes the first player not named Messi or Ronaldo to win the World Player of the Year award – with the last being Ricardo Kaka in 2007.
