Popular veteran Ghanaian actor and TV personality, David Dontoh has spoken against the renaming of the Ghana Movie Industry to Gollywood.
Speaking in an interview on Star FM’s ‘The Zone’ Show on Wednesday, July 18, 2018, with, KOD, David Dontoh expressed his disappointment in the industry for giving a name he termed as “Allien” to the Ghanaian.

He added that he doesn’t second the naming (Gollywood) because it’s meaningless and doesn’t know where that name originated from.
“I don’t subscribe to the name Gollywood because I don’t know where it’s coming from. If it’s ‘G’ in the name, it could be Guinea or Gambia.”

According to him, we are only trying to recreate something which has already been done by others and such is not acceptable in the creative arts industry.
“I think we’re just trying to reinvent the wheel. The one who created a Ghanaian film called it Ghana Film. So I don’t know why we’re trying to follow people because everyone has a ‘wood’ in their name.

“Show movies for our own people to appreciate and that’s when I can say we have a movie industry but until that is done, I can’t say we have an industry,” he concluded.
