Assin Central MP Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, always known for being a contrarian, has lambasted the NPP government for claiming they have created hundreds of thousands of jobs since they took over.
According to him, many of those jobs don’t even pay more than Ghc 400 a month, therefore do not qualify to be classified as jobs when he even pays his driver Ghc 1,500.
Speaking on Asempa Fm, the firebrand MP said these jobs must be sufficient to allow young graduates do something with their lives therefore when most of them pay so little, it’s an insult to be bragging with them.
“People are suffering. See, unemployment is ubiquitous. Even though President is still working and things will change, we must be truthful about jobs… How can you pay graduates Ghc 400 a month and say you have created jobs,” he wondered.
“Even my driver how much do I pay him? My driver is a young man. I pay him Ghc 1,500 so that he too can do something for himself, so please, we must get serious about job creation”. he added.
Agyapong also rubbished claims by the Agric minister that his sector alone has created 745,000 jobs in one year.
“If US with 300m people created 200,000 jobs in 2017, how did Ghana, with our population create 745,000 jobs under one sector?”, he asked.
