Parliament's Appointment Committee Approves Martin Amidu For Special Prosecutor With Only One Dissenting Vote

The Appointment’s Committee of Parliament has approved President’s Akufo-Addo’s nominee for the position of Independent Special Prosecutor.
Martin A.B.K Amidu, who was vetted by the Committee last week, received a near unanimous approval, with all members of the committee voting for him except NDC MP Alhassan Suhuyini.
Thus his nomination precedes to the main floor of the house for a vote.
Amidu, a former Attorney General under the John Atta Mills administration, was dubbed the ‘citizen vigilante’ for his relentless anti-corruption crusade after he was ousted from government. He famously took the case of Woyome’s Ghc 51.2m judgement debt to the Supreme Court and won a judgement for the money to be paid back.

In recognition of his incorruptible nature, President Nana Akufo-Addo nominated him for the newly created special prosecutor role.
A report by the committee, signed by Chairman Joe Osei Owusu, read in part: “the Committee having satisfied itself that the nomination of Mr. Martin Alamisi Burns Kaiser Amidu by His Excellency the President as Special Prosecutor is in conformity with the Office of Special Prosecutor Act, 2017 (Act 959) and also persuaded that the candidate has the requisite integrity, competence, courage, determination, sense of purpose, independence of character and a mind suitable for the position accordingly, recommend by an overwhelming majority decision, the House to approve the appointment of the nominee by consensus.”
