In the past it used to be that a song would reign for a long time and dominate the airwaves wherever you pass, but these days the hit songs come and go like a flash in a pan.
‘Telemo’ hitmaker Odartei Milla Lamptey, known professionally as Gasmilla, says his hit song was the type of old skull hits which reigns for a long time whilst Ebony’s hit songs are simply flashes which last for months and then disappear for another one to take over.
Gasmilla was speaking with Graphic Showbiz in a recent interview and was asked why he hasn’t been able to drop another hit song since ‘Telemo’ took over the entire Ghana in 2014.
According to him, every artist releases a massive hit song in their career that they are never able to match up to again and for him that song was ‘Telemo’.
“For instance it will be difficult for Nana Boroo to release a song bigger than Aha Yede or D -Cryme to release a song bigger than Kill Me Shy. It will take a long time for any musician to release songs which will overcome his previous hit,” he said.
Asked by the interviewer why Ebony is able to drop hits after hits — just this year ‘Sponsor’, ‘Date Ur Fada’ and ‘Maame Shw3’ – Milla said its because her songs do not reign as long as his did.
“Telemo reigned for nine months and even though I had popular songs like 3 Points, Aboodantoi, Letter To The Government, none of them could match up to Telemo,” he said, adding that Ebony’s songs only reign for a few months and die.
