Davido Sued By Lagos State For Tax Evasion — Don't Brag About Your Billions On Social Media If You Don't Pay Your Taxes

Mr ’30 billion’ Davido could find himself in some hot waters after Lagos State officials opened an investigation into him for failing to pay his taxes to the state.
Davido recently bragged on social media that he made N500m in one night from his ’30bn’ concert and apparently the state of Lagos has not seen a nickel from that money.
A source within the state government has revealed to Nigerian newspaper Punch that Davido has not been paying his taxes for a while now and a suit has been opened against him for that. Many celebrities allegedly evade tax and another in the same soup as Davido is the comedian AY.
“Notable among these alleged tax offenders are two of Nigeria’s celebrated artistes –Davido and AY, the comedian. Both artistes have had a long-standing battle with the Lagos Internal Revenue Service for tax evasion.” the source told the paper.
“Davido, who has record deals with Sony Music Entertainment and endorsement agreements with various companies in Nigeria, has not filed his tax returns or remit any taxes to the Lagos State Government.
“Remember that Davido said he made N500m from his N30bn concert recently. We must know how much he paid to the LIRS.”
The source revealed the defence Davido is giving is that he pays taxes to his home state of Osun and not Lagos.
“AY too said the same thing. The comedian claimed to be paying his taxes to Ondo State, where he hails from. It seems these celebrities don’t understand that the tax law stipulates that you must pay your tax to your state of residence.
“Anyway, we are already in court. Others will soon appear in court if they don’t obey the state tax law. You can’t be making money in Lagos and refuse to pay tax.” the source added.
