If any one act in his long and distinguished career landed Martin Amidu the job as special prosecutor, it would his his dogged chasing of Alfred Woyome to pay up the Ghc 51.2m judgement debt his own NDC government paid to him.
Amidu chased Woyome all the way to the Supreme Court and secured a judgement for the money to be paid back to Ghana, and afterwards also fought for the money as Woyome did not pay and the Mahama government did nothing about it.
The President named that as part of the reasons Amidu was chosen for the position, therefore many Ghanaians are looking to Woyome as someone in deep trouble at this moment.
However, reacting to the appointment, a spokesperson for Woyome says they welcome the decision and that the businessman is not afraid of Mr Amidu.
“My boss is happy about the appointment of Amidu and is not bothered at all. He is not a criminal to be scared of Amidu. Amidu is a professional lawyer and won’t take any decision without any concrete evidence” Reginald Dogbe said on Neat Fm.
Amidu would commence his duties once Parliament approves the appointment after they return from their holiday break.
