Government has announced plans to install point of sale devices at all toll booths in the country to ensure the revenue taken is properly accounted for.
Toll booths around the country rake in huge sums of money on a daily basis but its practically impossible to tell how much of that money actually makes it into the state’s coffers.
In order to better account for that money, the Ghana Highways Authority (GHA) says they would implement point of sales devices at all toll booths. These devices record a transaction and prints out a receipt.
The aim is to keep accurate records and ensure the money raised for the government eventually ends up with the government.
The use of the devices are currently being piloted with some encouraging results, the Ghana News Agency reports.
