Former first Lady Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings has revealed that her relationship with her husband of many decades did not start off as a romantic fairy tale as some people think.
Nana Konadu, speaking at a Forbes Africa Women’s event with Peace Hyde, explained that it took time for their love to grow.
“With Jerry Rawlings, the former president of Ghana and I, it was not love at first sight. He grew on me”. she said.
The longest reigning head of state in Ghanaian history, Rawlings married Nana Konadu as a young Air Force officer in 1977.
Speaking about becoming first lady, she said she never planned to get the position but it just happened.
“I cannot say I knew I was gonna be first lady, I just landed the position.
“As first lady, unfortunately, I was thrown into the position when Ghana was really on its knees. No money, no roads. I didn’t come into the position when things were comfortable”. she added.
