Even though I admire the tenacious ignorance of those who were shouting a few days ago that Yvonne Nelson kept denying she was pregnant for privacy reasons, it also somewhat bothers me that a lot of Ghanaians cannot see through the thick smoke of nonsense that Celebrities craft.
I do not intend to discuss the legal conundrum of Press Freedom and Celebrities’ Right to Privacy in this article for two reasons: I recently wrote an academic thesis on this and anyone who is genuinely interested in this can read it from here.
Secondly, I believe a large percentage of those who would read this article wouldn’t understand the nuances of the conversation and no matter what, they would throw out the phrase “she has privacy.”
Ghana is full of liars and hypocrites—from our political landscape to even our religious terrains, people freely lie in the face of facts and no one holds them accountable. Interestingly, Ghanaian Christians who are told “thou shall not lie” do exactly the opposite and therefore Yvonne Nelson’s case should not shock any right-thinking Ghanaian.
On the subject of this piece; I would like to announce that, GhanaCelebrities.Com was indeed reporting the truth when the blog broke the news in July that Yvonne Nelson was pregnant—which she continuously denied with her friends.
Any public figure who can be this deceitful and contemptuous to the virtue of truth, so that she can just make money from a magazine cover with her baby bump, later on, is not worthy of kind words and should not in any way command respect from truth seekers.
Furthermore, it’s obvious that Yvonne Nelson was not in any way seeking to erect the cloak of privacy around her pregnancy for any valid reasons—except to make money, by selling the story as an exclusive to a magazine.
Simply put; Yvonne Nelson wanted to make money from her pregnancy and GhanaCelebrities.Com successfully cashed in on the same pregnancy, probably making more money than she even made by breaking the news when she didn’t want it out.
Yvonne Nelson does not care about privacy: it will be ridiculous, perhaps insane for someone who sells her pregnancy photos and story to a magazine to claim to want privacy in relation to the same pregnancy. She just wanted to control when the story came out and by who, which didn’t work out for her.
Of course, it’s her pregnancy and she has a right to decide what to do with the story surrounding it—in the same vein, the Writers and Editors at GhanaCelebrities.Com on the back of Press Freedom have a right to feed their inquisitive readers with the same pregnancy story and equally cash in on it.
As Lord Woolf put it; “[W]here an individual is a public figure he is entitled to have his privacy respected in the appropriate circumstances. A public figure is entitled to a private life. The individual, however, should recognize that because of his public position he must expect and accept that his actions will be more closely scrutinized by the media. Even trivial facts relating to a public figure can be of great interest to readers and other observers of the media”
Arguably, appropriate circumstances do not include a circumstance where the person’s enforcement of privacy is simply to make profit from a story by seeking to gag or discredit every media outlet in possession of the truth. And when the story has already been broken, an incessant denial of it should not also be accepted by the public.
The story is this: Yvonne Nelson got pregnant out of wedlock and the first thing that probably came into her mind was how she was going to make money from this pregnant or how she was going to shock the world with her grand announcement of her pregnancy. Therefore, when GhanaCelebrities.Com obtained the exclusive that Yvonne Nelson was pregnant and she was hiding it without paying a dime, she wouldn’t let the case rest—and started a campaign to discredit the report with unending lies, aided by her friends.
It surely has been a long journey of denials but it’s the truth that always wins—which is, Yvonne Nelson was indeed pregnant.
I do not know exactly how much Yvonne Nelson made from selling the story to WOW magazine but I can confirm that I am about to go on a long holiday to Europe and Asia, paid by how profitable Yvonne Nelson made events surrounding her pregnancy for us with her unending lies.
Now that it’s confirmed that Yvonne Nelson the liar and hypocrite was indeed pregnant and has given birth, I can now officially say, Congratulations-Yvonne Nelson. Learn to teach your child the value of truthfulness.
