Our activist sister Yvonne Nelson is back at work, this time looking to gather signatures to petition government for help in reviving our dead movie industry.
Nelson shared the petition on social media, calling on colleague showbiz stakeholders to sign it to put more weight behind it before being presented to the President and the Creative Arts Minister.
“We aim to present a petition to the President and the Minister of Tourism, Creative arts and Culture citing the difficulties facing us in the industry.” the petition reads, in part.
“We want to bring unity to all industry players, we aim to uplift the Ghana movie industry again for the better by making sure there is allocation of special funds for producers, right payment structures for all involved in the industry especially the thespians, royalties and its right disbursement, local content being the major viewers’ choice on our networks and allocation of cinema halls in five major regions across the country,”
Nelson shared shots of the petition, adding the following message to it.
“( ??PLS SHARE) Hello everyone , This is a call in the right direction, With Unity and team work, the dream will always come true. For God and country, I humbly ask all stakeholders in the Ghana movie Industry, Actors,(upcoming actors) , Crew members , Avid Ghanaian movie watchers etc. to help us present our Petition to the Government of Our beautiful Country Ghana, this is for us, this is for our failing movie industry. Kindly locate a petition form at these various locations and pen down a few details. All we need are signatures to express the passion we all have for the industry and how far we’ll go to bring it back to life.”
Her petition comes as a debate rages over the fate of the local movie industry in the wake of the influx of foreign soaps translated into local dialects which many argue is killing the our industry.
