Speaker of Parliament, Professor Mike Ocquaye, has refused a call by Amnesty International for homos*xuality to be decriminalized in Ghana.
According to the Speaker, legalization of homos*xuality would lead us on a slippery slope down a path where bestiality and other vices would be legalized under the banner of ‘human rights’.
A delegation from Amnesty International visited the Speaker on the floor of the House Tuesday, calling for Ghana to recognise the rights of gays and decriminalise homos*xuality.
But Ocquaye said it was not going to happen.
“Is Amnesty International going to tell us that many countries are doing that so you too have to accept homosexuality, to accept bestiality because [it] is also becoming a human right in some countries.?” he rhetorically asked.
“The right for a human being to sleep with an animal is also becoming a human right and we are tired with some of these things and we must be frank about it,” he added.
