A Ghanaian human rights lawyer, Francis Xavier Sosu, has been banned from legal practice for three years after being found guilty of misconduct.
The General Legal Council (GLC) reached the decision to ban Sosu after a complaint was filed against him by a former client.
Sosu was accused of professional misconduct, with a panel of the Council finding him guilty.
Francis Agyare, who is a former client of Sosu’s, filed the complaint, claiming the lawyer was trying to dupe him.
Mr Agyare spent 14 years in jail without trial, and was recently freed and awarded Ghc 200,000 compensation in a case in which Sosu represented him.
Sosu was given a one year suspension after being found guilty of that charge, but he was slapped with a three year ban for advertising his services on social media – which the Council frowns upon.
Sosu contested in the 2016 NDC primaries for the Madina Constituency, but lost to Amadu Sorogho.
