Indeed, lynching has come to stay with Ghanaians. As Pastor Mensa Otabil noted, it’s our culture and there’s nothing new about it to shock anyone–except that Captain Mahama, the latest headline victim is someone a little prominent.
According to Class Fm, a man suspected to have stolen a phone at Mbrom in the Ashanti Region has been lynched.
“Police say the incident took place on Thursday dawn. The deceased was found in a puddle of blood following a distress call from residents. The deceased, believed to be in his 40s, is suspected to have been given a chase and killed after the alleged theft,” reports the website.
Manhyia Police Commander Chief Superintendent Kwaku Buah has condemned the lynching, saying, even if the man is a thief, that’s not the appropriate punishment for his offence.
