Alban Bagbin Announces 2020 Presidential Run

Long time NDC leader in Parliament Alban Sumani Kingsford Bagbin, has announced a run for President in 2020.

According to an aide to the long serving legislator, Bagbin’s name would be in the hat when nominations for 2020 opens.

“What Hon. Alban Bagbin has done since 1992 is to serve his people and that call is emanating again. That call is for him to even occupy a higher position to serve the party well and that is the position of the NDC flagbearership” his aide, Konoba Joe, said.

“When leadership is emanating from the appeal of the people that at this particular point in time, this is the most suitable person to lead us towards a desired destination it is no more the call to that person but a call to duty.

“Everything has its season and this is a season for the re-organization of the party. He will heed to the calls of the people so that NDC years in opposition will not be plenty”,

The NDC, after its sweeping loss in 2016, are currently embroiled in discussions over who would next lead the party. Former President Mahama is the odds on favourite, but it’s not clear if he would agree to run again. Other names pundits have tipped to run include Haruna Iddrisu, Omane Boamah and Ekow Spio-Garbrah.

Alban Bagbin has been Member of Parliament for Nadowli/Kaleo since the advent of the fourth Republic in 1992. Currently the second deputy speaker of Parliament, he’s been both majority and minority leader in the past, as well as held ministerial positions under past NDC governments.
