The governor of Zamfara state in Nigeria, Alhaji Abdulaziz Yari, says the recent meningitis outbreak in the country, which has killed hundreds of people in his state alone, is a punishment from Allah due to too much fornication going on in the state.
The governor made the comments after holding a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari over the outbreak which is getting out of hand.
Nigerian media reports the governor as saying:
What we used to know as far as meningitis is concerned is the Type A virus. The World Health Organisation has carried out vaccinations against this Type A virus, not just in Zamfara, but in many other states.
“However, because people refused to stop their nefarious activities, God now decided to send Type C virus, which has no vaccination.
“People have turned away from God and he has promised that ‘if you do anyhow, you see anyhow.’ That is just the cause of this outbreak, as far as I am concerned.
“There is no way fornication will be so rampant and God will not send a disease that cannot be cured.
“The most important thing is for our people to know that their relationship with God is not smooth. All they need to do is repent and everything will be alright,”
If an elected leader believes such rubbish how is he going to effectively tackle the root cause of the problem?

Yari was reportedly warned about the impending outbreak by medical authorities, and did nothing about it, and it now seems he’s eager to throw the blame at everyone else and not himself.
Since Ghana is currently on the verge of suffering a similar outbreak, we have to find out which sin of ours is being punished so we tackle it ASAP.
