President Akufo Addo Inaugurates National Cathedral Project’s Trustees Board–And Otaibil & the Rest Are Happily On the Board

The order of the day in Ghana is, when it’s not coming your way, you then will have to complain–but if it’s coming your way, no matter how bad it’s, you will remain quiet or defend it.

A few days ago, the Ghanaian social media landscape was full of conversations in relation to the NPP’s government’s plan to build a national cathedral–attracting comments such as Ghana has more pressing needs which the government should focus on instead of a cathedral.

Earlier today, President Akufo Addo inaugurated a board of trustees to oversee the cathedral project, with Pastor Mensa Otabil, a preacher who on the face of it seems to ask Ghanaians to always make the right choice–happily on the board.

Other members include Duncan Williams, Dag Heward Mills, Rev. Kusi Boateng, Rev. Martey former Presby Moderator and Joyce Aryee.

The Board will be chaired by the former Head of the Methodist Church, Rev. Asante Antwi., with Rev. Charles Palmer-Buckle as Vice Chair of the Committee.

Of course, the church will support this project, to the detriment of the real needs of Ghanaians.

The inauguration comes despite a pending lawsuit at the Supreme Court by James Kwabena Bomfeh, a member of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), challenging the president’s decision to build the cathedral, saying Ghana, which is a secular state must not be seen to be getting involved in religious activities such as building a Christian cathedral and facilitation Muslim’s pilgrimage to Mecca.
