The government of Ghana has ann0unced plans for the construction of a new, interdenominational national cathedral.
The government’s announcement has sparked concern among a section of the public over why the state needs to be involved in such an explicitly religious venture despite Ghana being an officially secular state.
It has even sparked a lawsuit against government.
GhanaCelebrities.Com editor Chris-Vincent Agyapong Febiri has added his two cents, and as usual he cuts right to the heart of the issue.
The government is prepared to throw away resources on such a venture when we have too many churches already in the system yet lack many of the basic amenities of life.

With a lack of sufficient toilet facilities, schools under tress and countless children dying from malaria annually, building a national cathedral seems like a case of misplaced priorities.

Ghana is perhaps the country where we have more churches than both schools and hospitals combined–and millions of its citizens have no access to common modern toilet facilities, yet the government is set to build a new national cathedral!
While most countries like the United Kingdom has seen churches and cathedrals being turned into gyms, Ghana is building a new one, paid by the government.
What’s the government’s business in building a national cathedral when children still go to school under tress–especially when Ghana is not a theocracy?
Soon, the Buddhists in Ghana will be asking for a sanctuary to be built for them too, by the government.
This is the same country where about 20 thousand children die of Malaria each year and several thousands of people have no access to drinking water!
“God” must love our sense of priority!
