Ghana marked its 60th Independence celebration with a colorful ceremony at the independence square with Robert Mugabe among other Diplomats in attendance.

Amidst the occasion, Agya Koo led a Kumawood troop to stage a play on the importance of girl child education and it’s connection to Ghana’s independence and development. Apart from comments that Robert Mugabe slept during that performance, theater pundits have emerged to criticize the showmanship of the troop.

Dr. Daniel Appiah Agyei and a Movie Director, Script Writer and a Video Concept Developer, Alexander Anagli speaking on Adom News explained that the content of the drama lacked professionalism. By their view, the drama shouldn’t have been staged at such a State Protocol Event.

MyJoyOnline.com also reported that the experts argued for the organizers to have approach Professionals in the Creative Arts Industry about the whole idea.
Dr. Daniel Appiah Agyei, author of the popular play, ‘The Tears of Lucifer’, further stated that though the play featured Kumawood Stars, it couldn’t make its intended impact due to poor drama ethics.

“We have drama and dance departments in the university. We would have executed the project like as it was done during Ghana@50 which was done by professionals like the late Professor Nii Yartey, Professor Martin Owusu and Gordon Kortey among others,” he added.

The experts also questioned why the play was staged in Twi as Diplomats were also present at the occasion.
