Jihad Chaaban Pleads Not Guilty In First Court Appearance

Jihad Chaaban, the Lebanese Marwako supervisor accused of dipping the face of Evelyn Boakye, a Ghanaian employee, into pepper, pleaded not guilty at his first court appearance Wednesday.

Chaaban has been charged with assault, offensive conduct and causing harm, and pleaded not guilty to all three charges.

Chaaban was arrested following a report to Police by Ms Boakye, who claimed he dumped her face in pepper and held her down for minutes. He was processed for court Tuesday but the trial judge was not sitting, thus leading to the case being recalled today.

After his plea was taken, bail proceedings began, with the prosecutor arguing against bail. After hearing both sides, the judge ruled that Chaaban be remanded in police custody.

The case has been adjourned to 16th March.
