Gyan is one of 40 footballers cited by the UAEFA for the violation, according to the BBC.

The rule is reportedly against haristyles which shave certain parts of the head and leaves others, such as the mohawk. Islamic teachings ban such hairstyles, known as ‘Qaza’ hairstyles.

Gyan plays for Al Ahli in the Arabian Gulf league, having moved there on loan last year.

In 2012, a Saudi Arabian player was told to cut his ‘un-Islamic’ hair by a referee before a game.
