Alton Sterling was reportedly selling music records outside a convenience store when two police officers pulled up. They had reportedly been informed of a man threatening people with a gun, and they got into a confrontation with Sterling on their arrival.
Sterling was not armed during this confrontation, but whilst he was pinned to the ground, a voice shouted that someone’s got a gun. This led to one of the police officers pulling out his weapon and shooting him dead from point blank range.
An autopsy showed Sterling died of multiple gunshots to the chest and back, MailOnline reported Wednesday.
A bystander shot a video, which has sparked outrage since its release, with the graphic nature of Sterling being wrestled down unarmed and shot to death.
Protestors gathered outside the store after the shooting chanting ‘Black Lives Matter’, but they were shuffled away by authorities.
