Ghana’s Tranport Minister-Dzifa Attivor has resigned over the recent 3.6 million cedis scandal—a few hours after it emerged that a report has been submitted to the presidency, following a request by the Chief of Staff; Mr. Julius Debrah to the Attorney General to investigate the expensive bus re-branding exercise.

For the first time and perhaps one of its kind under John Dramani Mahama’s administration, a Minister has resigned over a scandal—due to the public outcry and shocking revelation that the cost of re-branding each of the 116 bus was Ghc30,420.00.

Aside the over the top figure given as the cost of re-branding each bus, it also emerged during the public outcry that the laborer who actually did the work charged as little as 100 cedis per bus, yet the invoice the government paid had 30,420 cedis as the cost.

A statement signed by the Minister’s Personal Assistant, Egypt Kobla Kudoto said; “Hon. Mrs. Dzifa Attivor, Minister of Transport wishes to inform the good people of Ghana that , as the Minister with oversight responsibility for the activities of the Metro Mass Transit (MMT)” she has resigned.

“She has tendered in her resignation as Minister due to the current issues surrounding the branding of the 116 buses.”

The statement continued; “She further wants to take the opportunity to thank her party for the opportunity offered her to serve, first as a Deputy Minister of Transport under the late John Evans Atta Mills, and later as the Substantive Minister.

Mrs. Attivor also wishes to thank the President sincerely for the honour to serve in his government. She has already communicated this decision to His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama through the Chief of Staff, Mr. Julius Debrah.”
