UT Boss Prince Kofi Amoabeng Says He Does Not Believe In Heaven And Hell

Prince Kofi Amoabeng

Prince Kofi Amoabeng has already set Ghanaian minds on fire with his claim that he does not and will never pay tithes. Can you imagine that? One of the richest men in Ghana- refusing to ‘give back to the Lord?’

Of course, Amoabeng was not done irritating Ghanaians on his appearance on this morning’s Starr chat. The UT boss also made an interesting observation about belief in the afterlife which whilst not particularly strange, is obviously anathema to the religiously saturated Ghanaian mind.

Amoabeng told Nii Arday Clegg that he does not believe in either heaven or hell. To him, you live your good life on this planet, and that’s it.

“I believe in God, I believe there is a creator; if you don’t like, call it nature but for me as a Christian, it’s God.

“I don’t believe in the afterlife, I believe that you have to do what is right and that your heaven and earth is here, I don’t think there is anything anywhere,” he said.

Whist he is not looking at it from the scientific angle, all the evidence points towards this being the only life we have. And like Amoabeng is saying, your duty would be to live a good life here, and when you die you hope those behind would also do their part.

Believing in heaven and hell, hoping for eternal reward and punishment, subscribing to that world view actually demeans life here. Because if one cannot do good just because that is the right thing to do, then there can truly be no altruistic act.

And the concept of hell, of course, is immoral. It illustrates more than anything the sadomasochistic bent of the human mind; that no level of bliss is enough enjoyment unless you can picture others suffering as well.

Amoabeng’s idea is not exactly revolutionary amongst the ever growing secular world, but for this country it is. And for me it seems enough that this very successful man is bucking all the expectations of his religious countrymen. I’m sure the accusations of gathering his wealth via underhand dealings would start being thrown at him soon.
