The Black Stars of Ghana were unable to break down a resolute Comoros team Friday afternoon in the world cup qualifier played in the Island nation’s capital of Moroni.
Hugely tagged as favourites, Ghana huffed and puffed for 90 minutes, but where simply toothless for much of the game with the forced absence of captain Asamoah Gyan.
Coach Avram Grant settled on Majeed Warris and Jordan Ayew to lead the attack, but things did not click quite as much as he might have hoped.
Harrison Afful and Jordan Ayew both came very close, before captain Asamoah Gyan hit the bar seconds after his entry in the 80th minute.
The home team had a goal disallowed for offside in the second half; leaving officials and fans furious as it was a legitimate goal.
In the end the spoils were shared between the African giants and the minnows; with the return leg in Kumasi on November 17 to determine who makes it to the next round of world cup qualifiers.
