163 National Service Staff Dismissed Over ‘Ghost Name Scam’ | Is Mahama the Leader Of Corruption?

President Mahama

The National Service Scheme of Ghana has ousted 163 of its staff for their involvement in a scam which has brought the name of the Scheme into disrepute.

According to the management of the Scheme, their decision follows an official report from the Board’s Disciplinary Committee about the financial malfeasance identified in the operations of the Personnel Allowances Accounts in the 2013/14 service year.

Reports indicate that, two retirees of the scheme who are on retirement would also be prosecuted—and forced to refund the monies they embezzled, while decision on three staff serving as prosecution witnesses have been deferred.

“After thorough deliberations following the Disciplinary Committee’s report, it was identified that the personnel were involved in gross misconduct and brought the name of the Scheme into disrepute through the “ghost name scam,” reads a press statement signed by the Acting Executive Director of the Scheme, Dr. Michael Kpessa-Whyte.

He noted that the dismissals are without prejudice to criminal prosecutions by the State.

We cannot state categorically that Ghana was corruption free in the days of other governments—but this current administration led by President John Dramani Mahama will admit that corruption has phenomenally increased—and that seemingly makes ‘Mahama the leader of corruption’ in the history of Ghana.

All governments will try to cover ‘bad stuffs’, and it’s great development that most of the corruption cases are being brought to light this time round–of which the credit will be given to journalists in the country who do their best to expose such canker…

If indeed, the President is ready to fight corruption, why is it that most of the perpetrators are left unpunished or with soft touches?
