Stevie Wonder is furious, after discovering his lawyer and right had man for decades had been screwing him over.
Wonder claims his first contract with his lawyer contained a clause that he’ll pay his lawyer’s family forever. He says he trusted the lawyer and believes he snuck that in there because Stevie cannot see.
The lawyer, Jonathan Vigoda, died in 2011. Their initial contract was for Vigoda to get 6% of all music royalties. Unbeknownst to Wonder though, there was a clause saying payments to his family would go on forever.
However it was only until 2013, two years after the lawyer’s death that Stevie realised he was still paying money to his widow. He ordered the payments stopped immediately because he was never told the payments would survive the lawyer’s death.
According to TMZ, “Stevie says in his docs he was betrayed by a man he trusted and wants a judge to declare he no longer has a duty to pay royalties, because the attorney took advantage of a blind man.
“Johathan’s widow has filed her own lawsuit, demanding Stevie pay from the time he stopped and forever in the future. She wants $7 mil minimum.”
